I never like these zero-sum games people play with the space program. For the cost of the Iraq War we could have had 25 Apollo-style moon landings and $500 billion to play with for climate and renewable energy research. Yet, for some reason, the $12 billion that NASA currently gets is treated as the waste of resources standing in the way of solving our climate problems. Farking myopic, is what this is.

The problem with fueling up your car in the 70s had nothing to do with the space program and everything to do with OPEC. Japan made better consumer electronics and fuel-efficient cars because their industries were young and hungry and ours were mature and complacent. Stupid zero-sum games never win anything. Short-sightedness rules. If Bush had spend $500 billion on going to Mars and $500 billion on alternative energy, we'd have landed on Syrtis Major, be unrolling cheap photovoltaic solar fabric by now, and had the same military presence worldwide that we did in 1999. Instead, we enriched Halliburton stockholders, paid for Blackwater's private army, and spread tons of depleted uranium around Mesopotamia. When you throw out figures like $100 billion being a waste on the space program, remember, that's chump change these days. Seven times that went toward bailing out pathologically stupid investment bankers.

This isn't the first time that crazy religious fanatics mention Mao, Stalin and bin Laden as people to emulate. But it's always funny to hear them say it. I wonder why they choose a heathen Muslim and godless atheists when their Good Book should be brimming with proper role models.

Seriously, the previews I've seen were so jaw-droppingly awful that I cannot believe anyone signed off on the final renderings from the server farm. Bugs Bunny cartoons have more life and verve than this crapola. He-Man cartoons, for God's sake.

When you have a movie like District 9 doing more believable motion capture aliens for a fraction of the cost, you'd better take a good long hard look at the technology you're flogging. If I want to see mid-90's polygoned animation I'll just go find a GameCube on eBay.
