And you should be offended being called "McCarthy", T. Suarez.

I resent being called a McCarthyite because my concerns are different from his. Greenwald resorts to cheap insults that don't even mean what he thinks they mean. He has contempt for anyone who doesn't think as he does. He is ... ephiphany! ... just like Obama, which is why he's so in the tank for Obama.

Joe McCarthy was, after all, a belicose alcoholic who died of hepatitis after managing to thoroughly humiliate his party through blind ranting and public paranoia.

You exhibit (as yet) none of McCarthy's public paranoia, although your blind ranting does humiliate yourself and leaves one to wonder about your drinking habits.

What was that, anonymoose?

I think we must be witnessing a true Divine intervention, tearing the scales off the eyes of a gullible electorate, who seemed on the verge of embracing a false messiah. Hallelujah!

You mean Senator McCain is being called across the River Styx and will now reside in the Valhalla of his dreams?

"Wow" indeed, hornetdriver.

Been away for awhile, but, wow, the idiocy has really been dialed up lately.

Indeed. Your return has pushed it well into the red.

I'll refrain from further comment as my tolerance for said idiocy is well past the red right now.

Better pull the "eject" lever on your seat, HornetDriver.

Oh, and Glenn? Stick to pissing in your pants. You can't do the humor thing.

I detect a hint of jealousy. Is it because you and yours are just shooting blanks, both in the air and...well, I won't go there. One must maintain some standards, after all.

How's this for a summary:

This constant coverage of Reverand Wright is (a) a distraction, (b) ridiculous, (c) tells us more about how the media views race than about Obama's character, (d) underscores the risks of involving religion in politics, (e) further underscores the double-standard the media applies to caucasian religious conservatives versus non-caucasians and (f) is about as important as the small fact the US military has quarantined the town of Piedmont, Utah.

Don't believe me? Look up www.whathappenedinpiedmont.com That should give you some idea of how seriously I rate this madness.

Its nearly enough to make me wish I'd stayed in Mexico.

Is there anyone who thinks that behavior is anything other than deeply corrupt?

Well, there's shooter242, Proximity Warning, anonymoose (if s/he ever decides to go by their real name), Elephantman, and probably the unlamented Bart if he were still around...

Oh, sorry. You meant that rhetorically, right?

I understand local political corruption is considered something of a spectator's sport down in Florida and along the Gold Coast. Pity the consequences of it here - which Williams and company of course don't dare acknowledge - are so much worse.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 07:50 AM

Strange standards, shooter242.

You're going ignore a fundamental discussion of race, in favor of determining that Generals are affiliated with the military?

When there's an actual 'discussion' about it, then we can talk.

You know, if you had the fairness to demand listed associations of EVERY guest, you might have something. But no. This is just another partisan piece of political posturing.

Considering there are no "guests" here, shooter? What do you think this is, a cable news show?

In any case, we're talking about a couple of potential (if not actual) war profiteers masquerading as 'impartial experts'. Established facts, not posturing and certainly not partisan.

The Talent is "topping from below".

Do you people actually think the "Talking Heads" get to decide what goes on the air? Serioulsy you can't be that naive... -- odog11

Hardly. Its of course the editors and producers who actually 'decide' what get's broadcast. But the Talent are the really the only reason people tune in to these journalistic atrocities.

By embarrassing the Talent you both undermine the networks and threaten their profitability. When it becomes clear the editors and producers are no longer producing profitable media (even after the Talent gets replaced), they get fired.

I'll grant I'm oversimplifying and perhaps hoping for too much. Perhaps not. We'll have to see.

Why would anyone discuss THAT, shooter242?

Hmmm. Because Racism is a more pressing issue than mistaking Generals for anti-war advocates? It's now an issue in the election. Ignoring it only makes it worse.

You and yours have been "ignoring" it for years, shooter. That or actively formenting it.

And now you expect to be allowed in? I'd be more worried about the people at your back, son. Hagee and company look none-too-stable; they might just start calling for human sacrifice before too long.

It matters, BrewCity.

Do you seriously think anything will come of this? A few years ago I would have thought any one of these things would have taken this administration down. They have been and are probably going to get away without so much as a scratch.

It matters.

It was barely a generation ago that Jim Crow laws, lynching, and membership in the KKK were still considered 'acceptable'. No longer.

The generation before that, anti-semitism and racial segregation were considered 'acceptable' and even 'patriotic'. No longer.

Every generation has its trials as it tries to secure a saner future for the next. This is our's, and real life isn't an episode of "24" (despite the Administration's wishes to the contrary); there's no commercial breaks and no grand conspiracy that can be taken down so sanity can be restored.

These issues and their consequences will take a long time to be worked out. It will be a long, tedious struggle for us to do so. And at the end of the day we may well see little return for our efforts, never mind a host of new problems that will need addressing.

That's life, but life changes. We and our society change.

It takes time and effort and vision for that to happen. And we all have our parts to play, however small they may be.

But it does matter. All of it and all of us here matter.

And yes, that includes shooter242; every court needs it's royal jester, and every garden it's snakes-in-the-grass.

That was Glenn's original point, Love Bug.

Currently there are EIGHT articles on Salon.com about Wright. Why?

Precisely his original point.
