What's the old saying?

"Its not the crime. Its the cover-up."

Or is it "There's no fool like an old fool."

Either seem appropriate right now.

The final judgment of shooter242

Tell you what, let me check with Libby and Delay, to see if they have sympathy for this guy.

You wish to compare documented cases of public corruption against a manufactured case that was itself corrupt.

Consider yourself dead to the rest of humanity, as only a corpse would fail to make this distinction.

"Its going to be a long year for Obama." And for the rest of us.

A fair point raised. Yes, this is just the start of the election and it will likely get uglier and less sane as we approach November.

Here's hoping enough of the American public (a) don't pay attention to Drudge and his ilk, (b) find Obama sufficiently engaging to actually listen to him, and (c) engage their brains.

Incidentially, I find Kristoll's column even less worthwhile than his previous ones. He's only 'hard to argue with' if you don't consider how he carefully twists the Senator's response about to tone it down. Bill might as well be on Rove's payroll.

At the core of Glenn's original post lurks the question.

Is McCain's embracing of Hagee a measure of what the modern GOP stands for?

What then are we to make of Steve Kirby's run for the Senate in South Dakota? http://thehill.com/markos-moulitsas/gops-flesh-eating-zombie-candidate-2008-02-26.html

Or Brock Olivo run for the House seat in MO-09?

Are the Democrats running anything remotely equivalent?

Thursday, February 28, 2008 05:37 PM

Will it amount to anything, however.

I'm Catholic and normally don't pay any mind to Bill Donohue. I actually didn't even know the Catholic League existed until a year or two back. If anything, I'm even less inclined to take his lead on any issue now.

I'm of the sense the MSM considers Donohue, like Hagee, are considered only worthy of attention when they attack Democrats. It feeds into pre-existing memes about Dems being 'hostile' to religion and Donohue, Hagee and company just being...well, nuts, given the language they employ.

So, will Donohue's dennuciation amount to a hill of beans in the current, static-filled media environment? Guess we'll find out.

Elephantman returns from the elephant graveyard.

Isn't Bill Donohue an object for general hatred at this website along with every other member of his organization?

No. We leave the 'general hatred' for professionals like yourself.

If anything, its wicked fun watching you lot turn on each other like starving beasts.

What price will McCain actually pay?

All that follow John McCain must ask this basic question..what price shall be paid for his ego.

In many respects I'm actually hoping McCain manages to weather this storm he's invited. The fact he's so actively courted the lowest and looniest of the old Religious Right will merely demonstrate how useless the lot of them are come November. If we're supremely lucky, the 'reluctant' endorsement of him by Dobson and company will simply seal his doom.

After that, well, we can always hope he takes the hint and moves back to Arizona and never troubles the country again.

It is a dream I have.

Not the Brazil they were referring to, Tomhere.

Great movie. It had a profound influence on me. Wonder if it's out on DVD? It's not easy to watch, but what a great experience. Please watch it.

Certainly one of Terry Gilliam's best works. Check out the Criterion Collection DVD release.

Rather timely, too, given how our government is beginning to look more and more like the Ministry of Information poor Sam Lowry had to work for. Guess that puts The Major as 'Spoor' and Glenn as 'Archibald “Harry” Tuttle'.

Well, McCain finally responded and 'renounced' Hagee.

Except of course, he didn't.

"Yesterday, Pastor John Hagee endorsed my candidacy for president in San Antonio, Texas. However, in no way did I intend for his endorsement to suggest that I in turn agree with all of Pastor Hagee's views, which I obviously do not.

"I am hopeful that Catholics, Protestants and all people of faith who share my vision for the future of America will respond to our message of defending innocent life, traditional marriage, and compassion for the most vulnerable in our society."

http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/mccain_i_obviously_do_not_agre.php

Left unsaid is exactly what parts of Hagee's views he doesn't agree with, and which ones he does.

Hopefully the MSM won't let it go at this. I'm very much afraid it will.

Therein likes the rub, Holly.

But it sure doesn't hurt to remind them of reality.

How many will be willing to accept that reality? This is a more 'enlightened' time than a hundred years ago, or so we're told. Besides, this is the United States. Stuff like that just doesn't happen here.

Unless you're black. Or Jewish. Or Muslim. Or some other non-white minority anywhere in the country.

Maybe a good dose of outright and very public sectarian strife is what's needed to get the American people to wake up about these lunatics. Sad if that turns out to be the case.

Friday, February 29, 2008 07:19 PM

THe MSM will likely take it at face-value.

McCain should not be let off so easily. Since he welcomed Hagee's endorsement, he must now spell out exactly where his views diverge from the preacher's.

This would be expecting our press to actually do their jobs for a change.

Well, stranger things have happened lately. Maybe this will as well.

The story will continue onwards.

Despite the leftist blogosphere's best efforts, this story is going nowhere.

Perhaps not, anonymoose. You and yours, however, definitely are definitely going somewhere. The same place the dinosaurs did.

Extinction.

And you won't be missed.

Better idiots please.

She also points out that Pastor Hagee has many positive things to say about Pope John Paul II in his book Jerusalem Countdown.

I'm sure the un-named friend also attends Hagee's own 'mega-church' and has pledged her virginity to him. A most unbiased source if ever there was.

And for the record, "Jerusalem Countdown" is an even worse waste of trees than "The Late Great Planet Earth". At least Hal Lindsey was edgy in his day.

"And Obama attended an Islamic madrassa as a child."

And Paul Atreides was trained in a Freman steich. Your point?

Its already been established Senator Obama is NOT a Muslim and is part of the UCC congregation. Or has that little fact escaped your keen attention?
