The impenetrable dgburns36

Even if I agreed with your worldview I would never want to hang out with any of you.

That's quite alright. I doubt any of us would wish to 'hang out' with you. One must be mindful of the company one keeps these days, and all that.

When you argue your opinions, reasonable argument for you position seems to get overtaken by emotional polemics and name calling every time.

So, passion and honest expression has no place in your drab, boiler-suited little world? Well, I'm not terribly surprised.

Just a thought.

More of a 'cliche' and 'talking point' than an actual thought, actually.

even more interesting is you seem completely incapable of seeing this about yourselves.

Still more interesting than that is how you seem pathologically incapable of seeing how shallow and small you've just made yourself out to be. Almost sad really.

But only almost.

The most rode PoliticalRealityOnline

You certainly have mastered the art of lengthy diatribes that do not advance the public discourse in any relevant way.

If you've something relevant to add to the discussion, please address it to the rest of us and not your reflection in the mirror.

Moron.

Somebody get shooter242 his security blanket!

I'd venture to say that most Dads were figures demanding maturity.

Careful, lad. Your daddy issues are showing.

So what is Fred Thompson in our current political environment?

Is he simply a by-product of a tragic-yet-prevalent trend we're seeing grip our political and social discourse? Or is he something more commonplace than we all care to admit?

Is there any way left to actually respond to this?

Glenn's covered it all.

We were supposed to be better than the savages who attacked us on 9/11. Instead we've allowed ourselves to become exactly like them.

And the worst part is that this all seems perfectly acceptable to our leaders and lead opinion-makers, thus making it equally acceptable to the public at large.

How do you argue against or even counter a mindset like that?

The sad case of Tiberius

If it was I could happily reflect on you staying in a secret prison having your flesh burned and your eyes poked out.

Silly child. Why do you think the US government undertakes 'extrodinary rendition' with its 'suspects'?

The objective truth shooter242 dares not confront

Krugman is famous for having gone years without one nice word toward Bush. That's not politics it's personal bigotry and prejudice.

Actually its just recognizing the flaws and failings of the Presdient, both personal and professional, are too overwhelming that they're pretty much all that define him.

I'm quite frankly hard pressed to think of anything about George W Bush that merits a kind word, including his personal appearance and what we know of his marriage.

Our definitions of "torture" need some adjustment

Annonymous points out: That no one replies to this point, even to deny its accuracy, is most revealing and disquieting.

Quite rightly, I might add. I suspect we too often equate "torture" with just deliberate physical distress and injury. Solitary confinement and/or deliberate sleep deprivation are amongst the most damaging and debilitating forms of torture known; they're also not as frequently mentioned as the damage is largely psychological and physical effects are far more subtle (though no less severe).

The historic ignorance of shooter242

Two days after 9/11 it was 78%

Your point? Its already well-established the Hussein regime had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks.

At this point, who the hell cares how many Americans came to the completely logical if incorrect conclusion about the party responsible for them on September 12, 2001?

Come to that, who the hell cares what you think at this point?

The abatross about the neck of shooter242

Apparently you are mistaking the shopping list for the next Republican presidential candidate for real concern.

This quite simply makes no sense as a response.

Fact: as Glenn illustrates, conservatives (with a few rare but toothless exceptions) lionized and supported every move and policy of President George W Bush over the last six years.

Fact: every move and policy of President George W Bush has been an objective disaster for the country.

Fact: as Glenn illustrates, the same conservatives (with the same rare and toothless exceptions) are now desperate to claim President Bush's agenda and actions were never their own.

What is so difficult to understand about that? Why can't you just face the reality the rest of us see so clearly?

The world given us by shooter242

* It's waiting for someone else to fix a problem

* It characterizes the country as a loser

* It's defeatist

* It doesn't offer positive leadership.

You've just described the leadership style of George W Bush to a tee, which is probably the most honest assessment you've ever offered.

Now go away.

The indian giver shooter242

This is funny. How many in this group have had anything, anything at all, positive to say about Bush, conservatives, or Republicans?

When has George W Bush, his party or his base done anything even remotely worthy of praise?

The desperate Anonymous

a bit off topic, but ...

No. Completely off-topic. And irrelevant to the issue at hand.

Do you have something to contribute, or are you just desperate to change the topic from the ruination of the Elephants?

Monica Lewinsky was a Soviet spy.

Thank you once again for exposing the intellectual vacuousness of yourself

Again, if you have someting to contribute to the discussion, please address it to the rest of us and not your reflection in the mirror!

Its just being rude otherwise.

The counterfactual history of shooter242

On the other hand Republicans have secured the country from additional attacks, cut taxes, raised revenue, lifted the economy from the Clinton-9/11 recession, deposed a tyrant, reshaped the Middle East, gotten the NK and Iran to the table, and gotten two excellent Supreme Court judges passed.

In order: no evidence of this, not an actual accomplishment, ditto, debateable, nothing to brag about, untrue, untrue, untrue.

These are what you define as "accomplishments"? I truly fear for the world you live in.

Sick comedy

It's just child care for working terrorists.

Bad joke.

Friday, June 8, 2007 10:55 AM

Sicker comedy

Tiberius: Feel free to be a terrorist, but watch your back.

This is either gallows humor, or someone who really doesn't get the issue at hand.

Either way, its a bad joke.
