I must differ with one of the letter writers. Sara Palin may be better than some Republicans, but that's damning with faint praise. She is a supporter of aerial wolf hunting--that is driving wolves into snow banks that hobble them, then shooting them from airplanes. What great sport! Do you think she has a greater affection for polar bears?
She describes herself as pro-business and pro-development. She says she wants to "develop Alaska's resources." One of her first acts as governor was passage of the Alaska Gasoline Inducement Act that is designed to attract pipeline proposals.
Just because she took on a few Republicans and Republican agendas (mostly because she had some Republican rivals she wanted to destroy) neither makes her principled nor reasonable.
People are so desperate for a savior, they've named him Barack Obama. I wonder if, when the bigots go into that booth, they won't pull the lever for white guy McCain instead of black guy Obama if he's the candidate. If you look at Obama's record, you'll see he is not a progressive. I am going to vote for Dennis Kucinich because he's still on the ballot in my state. I called the DNC and they said they have to count votes for Kucinich & Edwards even though they are no longer running. In fact, if in the very unlikely event they'd get 15% of the vote, they would still get a delegate. I have to vote my conscience in this failed democracy. I would consider it "throwing away my vote" if I voted for either of the candidates chosen for us by the media, corporations, and the DNC/DLC.
Tell me how this technology makes these members of the air force different from suicide bombers. Oh, yes, they're more cowardly because they don't give up their own lives in the cause of raining death on their "enemies."
It's obvious the corporate powers that are want Kucinch's voice silenced. I lived in Cleveland pre-Kucinich & it was a lot worse, and worse-off, in those days (1964-1966) than it is now. I hope the people of Cleveland don't send another corporate shill into the House.
I read "raj"'s condemnations of Kucinich & they don't make much sense to me. The Cleveland I lived in was one of the most racially divided cities I've ever seen (and I lived in Philadelphia, too). Last time I was in Cleveland, it appeared to be functioning well.
The rest of the US needs Kucinich.
I used to decry "bumper sticker mentality." However, after joining about 4000 others in Santa Fe, NM in an anti-war protest in February of 2003, and having absolutely no media coverage, I started collecting and displaying bumper stickers on my car. At this point I have "Bush, a global disaster, a natonal disgrace," "No billionaire left behind," "Out of Iraq NOW," "Support the troops, bring them home NOW," "At least the war on the environment is going well," "Get rid of big media," "Impeach Bush," "Impeach the #$@#@@$ Bastards," and "Mission, Not Accomplished." I have also written many letters to editors, some of which have been published. I also call my senators & congressman a couple of times a week urging them to stop funding the occupation and also to impeach. My little voice crying in the wilderness has had no effect on anyone with power, but I have had many conversations with people in parking lots who approve my bumper sticker mentality. Sue Noel
It's interesting that you continue to say Air America failed. It is vibrant in Santa Fe, New Mexico. New advertisers sign on every day. I listen to Thom Hartmann, et al. every day. So if you don't have Air America on the radio where you are, you can stream it online on, guess what?, Airamerica.com
I enjoy reading well-written and thoughtful letters like Graham Shevlin's and Chris Dowd's. However, as I increase my activism by actually getting out and talking to people, rather than emailing and preaching to the choir, I find more and more people who say they're going to vote for McCain. They are unrepentent, uninformed, and they want to stay that way. I fear greatly that we're in for a McCain presidency either by him actually winning or by the next great vote theft.
I'm afraid Obama has already been "swiftboated." Many people say they aren't going to vote for a Muslim. When we point out Obama is a Christian, they say he used to be a Muslim and he's like the Manchurian Candidate. Of course, they have no idea that the constitution declares that a candidate's religion is not to be considered. People now are willfully ignorant, so I'm trying to prepare myself for the tragedy that may occur.
Why is anyone having any doubts about whether McClellan is telling the truth? Any sane person knows that Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, et al. lied from the start. Let's try to get the crumby press telling the truth about McCain. When is that going to happen? After he's (ugh) president and has bombed Iran and has begun the Armageddon these nut cases are longing for?
