Progressives should stop being so timid(I didn't want to use the P word)

The MoveOn.org ad was spot on. It sends a message that the sane half of this nation isn't going to be remain in the missionary position forever, Pelosi and Reid's submissiveness notwithstanding. Petraeus did betray his oath to serve his country and its Constitution by becoming a political tool for a criminal administration trying to continue a criminal war and occupation. He has betray us and he has betrayed himself. Those who were "offended" by this ad were never ging to vote for democratic ayway, and not one person was going to switch his vote to the republicans because of this truthful ad. A true democratic society doen't worship its military and doesn't put it on a pedestal, leave that stuff to the chickenhawks and stop being so frightened and timid.

University of California system

We have had Republican governors here in California for 19 out of the last 24 years. This has meant the appointment of many highly conservative Regents to the UC system. This explains why, in such a Democratic state, John Yoo and a host of arch-conservatives are entrenched in the UC system. It's ironic that a private, exclusive and high priced university like Stanford has now a more liberal/progressive faculty than the once revolutionary UC Berkeley.

BetrayUS origins

Actually, I heard from an acquaintance, an officer who has served 3 tours in Iraq that the Betrayus name was given to him by fellow officers who resented his eagerness for political photo-ops and his tendency to cozy up to Republican politicians. It trickled down to the soldiers and now he is generally referred to as 'Betrayus' by his troops.

On a related matter, it's time for liberals to stop worrying about how the Right wing will react to attacks on Bush and his lackeys. The same republicans who were wuite happy with the swift boaters liars viciously blindsiding Kerry are now offended by the MoveOn ad? Give me a break. Petraeus turned himself into a politician, and a very dishonest one at that and he deserves everything that's coming to him. It's also a very smart move by MoveOn. Many uninformed Americans who would normally just accept the "report" of the Glorious General without any questioning, might hear of the ad and hopefully start thinking and reading about why he was referred to as BetrayUS by even his own troops.

Clarification

Condo Rice was parachuted into Stanford due to the influence of George Schultz, no one said that Stanford doesn't have influential conservatives. She was never liked by the vast majority of the faculty. Hoover is an autonomous conservative thinktank on campus, often at odds with the university. There's no one on the Stanford faculty remotely as conservative as John Yoo.

Free speech the conservative way

During his Haradball debate with Christopher Hitchens, and just as he does in every debate, Bill Donohue exhibited how the Right wing perceives free speech. Each time Hitchens started to speak, Donahue would interrupt him, speak over him and largely prevent him from expressing his views. When Hitchens would say:'excuse me, Mr. Donahue, you have had your turn, I was asked a question by the moderator and would like to reply now', Donahue would ignore him and just continue to talk and at least two times uttered the infamous 'an Englishman keeps quiet when an Irishman speaks'. He would also keep referring to Hitchens condescendingly as 'Chris", when he wasn't referring to him as a "dogmatic and radical atheist", although he was politely told by Hitchens that his name was Christopher and never Chris. The more points Hitchens would score, the more Donahue would interrupt him and try to keep him from expressing his views. This is the gist of the Right's percepton of "free speech". They love it when they can exercise it, they hate and suppress it when their opponents do.

The Right wing mindset

Something that stands out clearly, especially since the occupation of Iraq:whenever I express my opposition to the occupation to a Right winger, I'm automatically accused of being a hater of my own country, I want my country to be defeated and I support "Islamofascism". You would think that in the San Francisco Bay area, probably the most progressive and open minded area in the US (hack, we don't have even one Republican Congressional or state representative in the Bay area), Conservatives would at least assume that there's a possibility that opposing the war does not equate being a traitor and enemy of your own country, but no-unless you support the occupation and Bush and all of his shenanigans wholeheartedly, you are a despicable traitor.

I'm totally shocked

that the right wing hasn't accused the Clintons yet of being behind the death of Barbara Olson.

Since we discuss numbers

One hour of the "shock and awe" campaign in 2003 produced more dead Muslims than all the non-Muslims Jihadists ever killed in modern time. It's outrageous that the people cheering on the campaign that caused the death of maybe a million Iraqis are whining about Islamofascism.

Christofascists and neoconfascists

are now agitating for a nuclear attack on Iran, an attack that would surely produced a horrendous number of dead Muslims, almost all civilians. While they can't wait for an attack that kill tens, if not hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslims, they keep whining about Islamofascism. One wonders if their hypocrisy is greater than their lunacy or if it's the other way around.

Blaming an entire civilization

There's a radical Jewish settler group that has been plotting and trying for years to blow up the Dome of the Rock mosque in the old city of Jerusalem, the third most holly shrine in islam. Their purpose is to create an armaggedon like religious war that in their twisted view would hasten the coming of the messaiah. I don't see the neocons and the Christifascists tagging the Israelis or all Jews as "Jewfascists" and terrorists because of the views and actions of a few extreme elements.
