The most amazing thing that happened in the aftermath of the GOP defeat last November is that the corporate media has been behaving as if the GOP views on just about everything have been accepted and endorsed by the electorate. I was amazed to watch Davis Ignatius on Charlie Rose the other day accepting Cheney's take on the usefulness of torture wholesale, without any doubt, brushing aside the diametrically opposite POV of the FBI and CIA agents as well as other intelligent professionals who claimed that no useful information had been gleaned from torture and the information obtained by torture and dismiss that information as unreliable and largely useless.

The "economic independence" he talks so much about means that residents of the West Bank and Gaza(remember, Hamas has disbanded) would be allowed to work in Israel for minimum wages as busboys, street cleaners and construction workers, the menial work no Israeli is willing to do. This is what this racist neocon is willing to offer in return for an end to Palestinian terror.

An Iraqi or Afghan who were captured while fighting against an invading foreign power are terrorist, although none were ever tried or convicted? These are the people whose incarceration on US soil is supposed to be so terrifying? Theree so many American criminals incarcerated in US prisons who would murder rape an entire family for no reason beside gratuitous violence and we are supposed to be terrified of the Guantanamo prisoners? Tim McVeigh was much more dangerous than any Guantanamo detainee and so is James Nicols, who is still incarcerated on US soil. There are medium security prisons in this country that house criminals so violent and murderous that any Guamtanamo inmat would seem like a choir boy in comparison. A friend of mine, a decorated Vietnam war special forces vet once told me of visiting his Vietnam buddy who was serving a long prison sentence for unintentionally killing a man in a fist fight. He told me that some of the inmates he had seen during that short visit were so scary, even the guards seem terrified of them. They scared him much more than any Vietcong fighter he ever faced.
