It's not surprising to me that some people, especially those too young to have been contemporaneous (or shortly thereafter) following the Beatles, would be a little puzzled by Sergeant Pepper, or not totally “get it”. Abbey Road and some of the other albums might sound better to such folks.
But to those of us who lived it, Pepper was amazing. It broke new ground. It was great for all the reasons mentioned by llkraus above, and on many other levels as well. Take a look at what the Beatles’ rock and roll peers thought about it. They were amazed and inspired.
I had to laugh at the one of the authors’ cracks about the girl who left home (presumable, She's Leaving Home). That shows you totally don’t get the album. It’s too much to explain here.
But, to each her own.
I thank Debra Dickerson for writing this silly article. Because I followed the link. Wow, what a Babe, what an ass. That's a thing of beauty. And did you notice how her stomach looks almost ripped in some of the shots. She's not even fat (thus, the article is silly).
I'll say it again. What a fine behind.
It's very strange to me to read Thompson's speculation of the fallout had Haldeman said, "We've got the minority counsel in the bag".
It is patently obvious that they did have Thompson in the bag. The man was secretly and directly contacting the White House. He was giving them inside information. On a 1-10 scale of treachery, that’s a 10. He was a mole. He was a traitor to the committee. He made a mockery of separation of powers.
Who would hire a guy like this? Who would vote to put him in a position of responsibility? Who is foolish enough to trust him?
I need more information. I just helped my son buy a Toyota Yaris due the the expense of a hybrid. However, the Prius is significantly bigger than a Yaris or a Honda Fit, but still gets better mileage. So, I'm not convinced.
You need to give me more specific info regarding emissions.
After the mid-term elections, I was somehow I was able to predict that Ron Paul would vote against the Democrats legislative attempts to end the Iraq Occupation. I am not happy that I was correct.
Ron Paul voted against both appropriation bills that would have gotten us out of Iraq. One of them passed both houses but was vetoed by Bush. Both of the bills would have significantly curtailed Presidential authority.
So, Paul continues to do what he has always done. When it counts, he votes with the Republicans. He finds some lame excuse.
How many of his supporters are even aware of this? None that I talk to.
What you have here, beyond argument, is a causus system that discriminates against people who cannot take off a big chunk of time from work to participate and vote.
In addition, you have a bunch of casino workers who were given the unfair advantage of caucusing and voting in the work place.
In addition, you have casino workers casting a public vote right in front of their employers and union representatives, a situation that is ripe for abuse.
This will not fly. It will have to be fixed. There is no reason whatever to believe that the same thing wouldn't have happened had the union endorsed Clinton rather that Obama. There is no reason to believe that a lawsuit, with the same timing, would not have occured had the union endorsed Clinton.
People do not like to be put at a disadvantage. When it becomes obvious, they respond.
I don't agree with you here Joan. Beauty pageants focus on poise and appearance almost exclusively. What Begala says is literally true as it can be.
Are you a big supporter of beauty pageants now? Are they a plus when you evaluate females for hiring?
There are many traits, habits and activities that are associated with gender. It's easy to go too far in being offended by any possible reference. My only questions about Palin's pageant participation is how many, how big a part of her life have they been in the past and in the present, and is she a well-rounded person in spite of pageants.
Pageants are not a plus with me but I am sure that many women have absorbed the benefits while remaining immune to the negatives. I would like to know where Palin falls with regard to pageant cost-benefits.
