  • Why Hillary Clinton should be winning

    Thanks, Sean.

So, your point is that Hillary would be ahead if each campaign ran exactly the same way under different rules?

If anything, the Obama campaign has shown more ability to adjust to the rules and win than Clinton's - despite her teams experience in prior Presidential campaigns. If it were a winner-take-all system, do you really think the Obama campaign would have failed to take this into account in strategy and tactics? They would have concentrated firepower, instead of having their staffers spread out across all those states that are ignored by Clinton. If she can't figure out the Texas two-step, how does she resolve complex issues in Pakistan?

  • I hope so

First, Donna Brazile said that Paul Begala's vision was limited and that the Democratic Party is capable of expanding the base. Begala pretended that she was talking about marginalizing constituencies.

What is really laughable about this is how the Clinton campaign targeted women in the Iowa campaign and nearly completely ignored men. It was a terrible campaign for that reason. At the same time, her assumption that women would automatically jump on board was an affront to many women I know. They told me she should have appealed to their brains, not shared body parts.

Now Hillary is a gun totin', whiskey drinkin', Old South channelin' true representative of those who have been abandoned by "elites" and "eggheads" and, you know, those people who are getting everything they don't deserve.

As a caucasian male who has worked hard to complete an education and paid for much of it through military service, I resent her marginalizing me in Iowa and how her campaign now denigrates people with intelligence and education as "eggheads"

  • Michelle Obama nailed it.

She gave a wonderful talk about two people whose families did their best with what they had, so that those two people could work hard and make the best of their abilities. Families who worked hard, played by the rules and overcame obstacles without complaint. This is the epitome of the American ethic.

She had a high degree of difficulty and performed flawlessly. She nailed it. The girls were brilliant.

Nearly all the commentators gave glowing praise, except the judges from Rightwingistan are faulting this as "too liberal" and other nonsense. If working hard and achieving success are too liberal, the right has to admit they are totally bereft of any real values or intellectual heft.

I'm eager for Cindy McCain's speech about how she and John met and their life together.

Imagine a different V.P. pick by McCain. The McCain press release might go something like this: Elly Mae Clampett is a former beauty queen from a hardscrabble background. She has a firm grasp of energy policy and economics as an officer in the Clampett Energy Corporation and her position on the Board of the Beverly Hills Bank. Milton Drysdale praises her acumen and the many years she has spent advocating for animals in the community. Clampett's cousin, Jethro Bodine, noted scholar and expert on national intelligence, is seen by some within the Republican Party as a possibly great choice for National Intelligence Director....

  • Better to be silent and thought a fool....

  • The Reformer

Is transmogrification the same as reform? Is shape-shifting the same as reform? Is repackaging the same as reform?

  • Sexism and Sarah

I think you are correct, Rebecca.

The difficult thing seems to be analyzing this pick that was based on her sex in the first place. How can that not be a factor in analyzing whether she is ready? They're selling that she is a mother of five and has a new baby. How can that not be legitimately debated then? She's selling that she is a pitbull with lipstick.

That's part of their diabolical scheme to hurt the arguments of Democratic women in the future. They'll say, "You asked this about Sarah Palin." They will do this much the same way as they had attack ads in the can for whether Barack Obama did visit the troops or whether he did not visit the troops. They will argue it either way, just as they praise the Clintons at their convention this week. They will argue that her attendance at five colleges in six years gives her a broader educational background than Biden or Obama.

  • IOKIYAR

[Read the article: McCain to Obama: Do as I say, not as I do]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The Obama campaign has been so successful that George Bush has adopted his Iraq plan, has now gone into Pakistan without their approval and Condi Rice is saying war is not the answer. Further, McCain has adopted the mantra of Change and is decrying how terrible recent history in DC has been - the DC where Republicans have held the Presidency for 20 of the past 28 years and held congress until last year. McCain wants change so bad he's changing his biography and past ideals as fast as he can to get elected.

Why won't McCain wear a flag pin? The President of the United States should love this country, he cannot secede, oops, succeed without it.

  • He picked cuz she's purty

[Read the article: John McCain's cowardice]

John McCain is kind of pusillanimous to hide behind her skirts and cry about sexism every time they're criticized.

That's why it is a joke for him to also squeal, to anyone that will listen, about his time as a POW, because enduring that forty years ago doesn't mean he acts with dignity, character or honor now. Additionally, he trivializes the sacrifices of other veterans when he hides behind that cloak.
