It's time for women to say no

Women need to start saying no to gay designers who are making clothes for women who look like men. I really don't see how they are avoiding bankruptcy anyway, as the majority of us who have actual money to spend are over size 12 and over 30. There are only so many skinny teen girls with large disposable incomes, and depending on their fickle tastes seems like a recipe for failure. The numbers speak for themselves: while stores selling only skimpy clothing fit only for anorexic 13-year-olds are struggling to survive, sales of plus size clothing are soaring. I see a lot more women starting their own companies designing clothes for real women's bodies and lifestyles and making a killing, while fashion designers catering to Vogue set find more and more of their clientele getting old, fat, and tired of squeezing into their latest ridiculous creations.

Think South Dakota doesn't affect your life? Think again.

Sioux Falls is a major location of the financial services industry. Next time you get a credit card offer in the mail, notice where the return envelope is addressed. Chances are good that it is Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Wear the damn makeup

I work at a casino and wish the management would enforce some type of appearance standards. I have never seen so many ugly and/or extremely obese people in one place in my life. If I were in charge, employees would get free makeup, hairstyling, nutritional supplements, gym memberships, and anything else to they need to look good.

It's also true that most casino patrons are female and over 40. (Like me.) How about hiring some hot young hunks to serve them drinks? The women would be sure to return and bring their friends.

Strange and portly?

Better than stupid and obsessed with bicycling and running. Frankly, Salon, couldn't you find a writer that didn't drag out every idiotic Fox News lie about Gore? One that recognized that Gore has been consistent with his environmental message for over a decade and that he received more popular votes than any other Democratic candidate? If Gore does run in 2008, I hope that Salon will feature articles on how he can win, not those that tear him apart.

Even then, this "study" seemed ridiculous

Most of us know several women who got married after thirty, yet relatively few know anyone who has been the victim of terrorism, especially before 9-11 and the Oklahoma bombing. Most people who really want to get married do so; however, many women find that they are happier staying single. I have been married (and divorced) three times, at 25, 31, and 35, so I know that walking down the aisle is no great accomplishment. I wish I had paid more attention to my career than obsessing about being someone's wife; I would be a lot happier and richer now.

Original article: Madonna: Crazy for sinew

I am 10 days older than Madonna

So I find it amusing to compare myself to her. However, my livelihood does not depend on my appearance, I have had four children instead of her two, I do not have the time, money, and patience to spend hours working out, and if I had her money, I would relax and enjoy it instead of torturing my body. Building muscle and being physically fit is great, but Madonna appears to be obsessed with elimating any trace of curves or softness from her body.

More practicality than power

My boyfriend acts like he's entitled to blowjobs, but acts like he's doing me a big favor when he goes down on me. I mainly do it to stimulate his 45-year-old penis, which seems to get soft if not constantly attended to. At least he doesn't come in my mouth.

The War on Women's Bodies

All nations that practice genital mutilation should be boycotted, shamed, and refused aid by the UN, US, and Europe. Women who wish to escape mutilation should be automatically granted refugee status until this barbaric practice ends.

If women walked out of churches . . .

they would cease to exist. Most churches I have attended (any denomination) are at least 70% female. Some are closer to 90%. Women just seem to be more interested in religion and spirituality than most men and are the ones who support churches. Most realize this, and even the evangelical churches allow women to be pastors, usually as part of a husband-wife team. Who exactly do the idiots at this particular church think is going to teach the boys now? It is hard enough to get anyone to volunteer, and most of those who do so are women.

Who decided that skeletons are sexy?

I would much rather see some real women with real curves. Most models look like they belong in a concentration camp.

I had my last baby in the morning . . .

by natural waterbirth, went home, took a nap with her and my boyfriend, and was out shopping that night. So not everyone wants to hide or feels like crap after childbirth.

Other industries are regulated and the workers protected

Why not the fashion and entertainment industries? I would like to see emaciated models and actresses banned from fashion shows, magazines, television, and movies, unless they are portraying a character who is starving.

Relax Velora

As long as you're eating enough for your body to be properly nourished, you're fine. The problem is with women that deliberatly starve themselves to in order to be clothes hangers.

Thin does not equal beautiful

There are beautiful women of all sizes. I get so tired of hearing "fat and ugly" in the same breath. Also, how much of "beauty" consists of enhancements such as makeup, hair care, custom-made clothing, and clever photography? With unlimited funds, almost anyone could look good.

Original article: Slash video: Kirk and Spock

Spock is half human

so it is not entirely an interspecies relationship, althought I always wondered how his Vulcan father and human mother managed to reproduce. I guess genetic science in the 23rd century overcame that obstacle.

Original article: The skinny on anorexia chic

I'm a long way from 350 pounds

Actually I'm 196 pounds and between 5'7" and 5'8", which makes me "obese" according to the BMI standard. However, I'm quite healthy and could probably kick your ass, Natalie.
