Liberal Hawks

Here is a link to an October 2002 pro-war (over the top)argument titled "Say Yes To war on Iraq" by Dan Savage a well known liberal editor and sex advice columnist at "The Stranger," an alternative newspaper in Seattle. This guy has authored a couple books, is featured on NPR shows, and gives speeches around the country. He's represented by the same speakers bureau as Amy Goodman. Here's a couple highlights from the piece with a link to the whole article below. Mr Savage now disclaims any responsibility for the carnage that has occurred.

"War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times."

"The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves."

My Apology

The letter above was intended for Glenn Greenwald's piece. Geeeez, well over ten years on the internet, and I'm still screwing up. I apologize!

Liberal hawks had influence at a local level as well

Fiddy is pretty smart

Fiddy knows what he doesn't know which makes him smarter than Bush. Today Bush is in Ukraine stirring up problems with Russia over a missile based defense system that doesn't even work, assuming it purpose is missile defense, not simply enriching corporate supporters. How many days are left in this administration? If only the Democrats had a spine, and integrity, and...

Life is too short for TV

Every minute spent watching this trash is a minute of your life wasted.

Life is too short to waste on this shit.

I'm with McCain on this one

My choice of shorthand is to call warmongers, bigots, racists, homophobes, torturers, hypocrites, American Taliban evangelicals, and liars Republicans. It is so much easier than having to use critical thinking.

Very interesting

I have photographed over 100 street protests so I find this interesting on several levels.

1) For some reason I have always thought the photographer of this image was Benedict J. Fernandez

2) Capturing an image like this requires elements of luck, skill, and preparedness. This photographer was almost certainly using a manual exposure/manual focus camera which requires frequent adjustment to get a good photo. Also he had to be standing in the right place at the right moment which depends some on luck and some on experience.

3) Most interesting is the evidence provided by the other images on the roll of film that demonstrate the obvious assumptions to be made about this image to be wrong. What if this image had been made digitally and the photographer had an agenda? Would there be a verifiable series of images to provide context for this one?

But...but..

But republicans DO suck. And the Dems ARE spineless. And the media IS corrupt.

Smears are ok as long as you don't endorse them?

So let's say I find a post on the internet that says Joe Conason is a child molester. I go ahead and forward it far and wide. But this is OK because I don't endorse the view that Conason is a child molester.

More illegal conduct for the Democrats to whine about

More illegal conduct for the Democrats to whine about-AND do nothing meaningful about. History may record Bush has the worst President ever. But it should also record this Democratic congress as, at least, one of the most spineless ever. Next year this country could have a Democratic President, house and senate and the Republicans will still be kicking their collective spineless ass.

What about social security

When the Hortons find out what McCain wants to do with their social security and the economy, an arrogant black man might not seem so bad after all.

Iron my shirt conspiracy

The Iron my shirt conspiracy described above doesn't come close to sounding reasonable. And I say that as a Hillary dis-liker.

And what is really remarkable...

And what is really remarkable is McCain is going to accomplish all this with what I would call a slightly modified Bush approach.

I was reading something yesterday in which the writer wrote that the Republican party is already gearing up their dis-information campaign against Obama. Dis-information! The Republicans are so far out of it they can not win an election telling the truth. Their main advantage is the Democrats are so spineless. If McCain is elected we will find ourselves in more wars not less.
