Sis i-law ? that you ?

Tough that your dad was an asshole, sounds a lot like my sister in law, the one who physically & emotionally abused my nephew, lied to the courts for custody and pissed all my brothers maintance payments on drugs & alcohol.

What really pisses off a lot of people (male & female) on this blog is its mindless kneejerk blame men attitude - so they reply in kind.

CMS - its not just a problem for women

Its a problem for men as well. Basically tying your finances and emotions to a deceptive, abusive loser is bad for both sexes.

Me - I recommend not getting married at all, if you must live together for a few years first.

For once I agree with Broadsheet

The anti-abortion display sounded pretty offensive but encouraging its destruction was outrageous.

Seriously strange

And good.

Anyone look closely at the japanese advert ? happy little pigs being chopped into giblets ...

I'm going to be dreaming this tonight

Holy crap

I expected the screeching ravings of the pro-israel everyone is a anti-semite astroturfers with their strawmen fallacies, but they've really outdone themselves in volume here.

Well done Salon, Kudos.

Its true

As a son of teachers, and married to one (Hmmm ... lets not go there ....) I've noticed this a lot. Male teachers - Primary & Kingergarten in particular face very real risks of witchhunts. Their lives can be ruined on the malicious accusation of a angry child who has no real understanding of what they are doing. Or a paranoid parent can spark a self reinforcing hysteria amoungst parents.

A related issue is the social oprobum men earn for working in "female" fields, as if they are less a man. Nursing used to be like that though more acceptable these days but a stay at home dad is all to likely to be considered a deadbeat for not earning money. The support groups that mothers are part of tend to be male hostile or unsupportive.

Isn't this huge ?

A top CIA offical testifies that the bush admin took the USA to war of false premises ?

Where is the outrage ? the impeachment ?

Friday, April 21, 2006 02:10 PM

As usual

The letters have a far more nuanced input on the subject than the broadsheet writer who takes the usual "Da man is supressing the girls again" line.

Good grief

The first comments from the women in my office were "How thick were they !"

How lucky Erin's sons are

That she already recognises their inherent filthyness as males. I'm sure over the years she will remind them of how they can't be trusted and they should always monitor essential male evilness.

What a crock of shit - poor kids.

I'm intrigued

That none of the people praising the article notice or are bothered by the author characterising her three young boys as potenial gang rapists. Thats whats isnpired some of the admitely raving postings.

I appreciate it if they got over their dudgeon and answered this - if they wrote this article how do they think their children would like reading it in 15 years time ?

"Yes Mummy/Daddy seriously wondered in public as to wether you would turn into a gang rapist or worse. Yes I looked at my five year old boy and saw a rapist"

You know what I'd like to see

A few essay's on salon from Fathers, here's a few ideas

Will my daughter grow up to be a:

- Prositute

- Child Abuser

- Passive/Agressive manipulative princess

Throw in some gratutitous detail on his long sloppy deep kisses with his 5 year old daughter.

I sure the supporters of Aylet Waldman & Erin Sullivan would welcome this.

Can we get back on topic ?

The topic is not the Duke state allegations etc al.

Its wether Erin Sullivans little boys are rapists - that is after all what the article was about.

Serai - not one word about her boys being rapists ?

At Duke a decade ago, I got a glimpse of ugly male pack behavior I've never forgotten. Now I wonder about what my own small boys might do

...

At some point my children will become entirely their own selves, mysterious even to me. Does this mean that one night a child of mine may find himself drunk in a room full of heckling men watching a stripper take off her clothes? I don't want it to be true. But it is like the face of the woman in the bar; I can't get it out of my head.

Hattie - no she is not

I am glad Ms. Sullivan is thinking now about bringing her boys up to be decent to women. It does not happen automatically. She loves her boys and wants them to turn into men she can respect. Obviously.

She is seeing them as potential rapists - at preschool age. Those poor kids are going to grow up with a mother who sees them through that lense always. They won't learn to respect women, they'll learn to fear them and hate themselves.

miriald - Beg to disagree

Most of the article is whining about her own complicity/inactivity in events she partook of in her youth.

When she talks about her kids its about their potential to be the same as the obviously guilty Duke rapists.

Serai - eh ?

Oh, and blackpaw: Harvard student? Bwahaha! You're so cute. I wish I had a camera right now.

You've lost me on that one - I said nothing re Harvard, cripes I grew in New Zealand. Perhaps your're mixing me up with another writer.

Again, I will say that Sullivan did not say her kids are natural rapists

Nor did I - but she certainly see's them as potential rapists, which I feel is a sick and abusive thing to be viewing one's preschool kids as.

MacK - Editors Choice

You should be getting editors choice for that, well considered and insightful. It gave me food for thought.

Sansho1

I think it was to point out that she was not a peer of the students, which may have served to remove what might ordinarily be check on their behavior

Really ? - I would have thought the opposite - a peer would be more likely to be treated with a lack of respect.

But I'm not a expert on the whole US frat thing - I find it quite bizzare.
