  • the next world war

Will be fought for access to medical care. With HIV+ running at 30-70% in some African country adult populations and rape being used as a weapon of war you wind up with the sickest most desperate people also being the most heavily armed. Wait and see - Global Warming won't mean squat to them.

  • If only you were inspiring

If only elections weren't ties. Then none of this would be relevant. But Dems can't win for losing. Oh you can blame De Evul White Mon, Mossad, the Courts, the weather. But in truth half of the people who bothered to vote voted against you. And half of all people who could vote stayed home.

If only Dems could run some character who was inspiring instead of the "Anyone But The Guys in Charge" candidate. If only you could win by more than the statistical error of voting.

  • Why would you care at all what BOR has to say?

Why do you give them air?

  • Don't Fly

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm kind of dull to the complaints. I hate flying. I have been verbally and physically assaulted. I have been threatened. I have been 'escorted' out of the terminal by the police more than a few times. I've had mouth breathers caress my genitals in public. I've been frisked, harassed and questioned. I've had every piece of luggage for a family of 5 tossed open on the floor of the lobby at 2am as part of a 'random' check. I've been jabbed with the business end of an M-16.

So I'm kind of indifferent to the call of 'well we HAVE to fly'. No. You don't. Not unless you're crossing an ocean you don't. As long as you put up with it it will only get worse. All you have to do to make it worse is give them your permission. I for one would be happy if air traffic in the US dropped by 90% and ticket prices increased by a factor of 10. Make it the domain of the rich who then can chose to fly or even charter their own flights. You see there is no solution - you handed all this power over to the process of government and now they will of course never ever give it back under any circumstances. You imagine that this is a phase. It's not. It's forever and it will only get worse and worse and worse. You will pine for the days that you didn't have cavity exams, that you didn't have to come to the airport 6 hrs before your flight, that you were allowed to bring any baggage at all. You will fondly remember the days of 30% on time performance for a trip that only had 2 stop-overs or the days when 'bad weather' didn't mean they simply canceled your connections and told you to deal with it yourself. It will only get worse so get used to it and stop sniveling.

  • Of the Idea of the UN lobbying the Nobel to give them half of the "Peace Prize"

[Read the article: Al Gore wins the Nobel Peace Prize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is laughable. The Peace Prize means anything you want it to at this point. It's a catch all. I guess when there are millions dead in Africa and there are 80,000 UN 'Peacekeeping' troops there and little bush wars flash up across the continent, the mid east and across the Caucuses, the Indian Ocean and SE Asia while everyone trembles in fear from pollution belching China - yeah it's better we award more 'talk'.

  • So it's about media share then

Your SNR = 0. Sorry. In either case, all of this noise about tweaking the electoral system would be moot if all elections didn't end in a dead heat. See the problem is not the system it's that no one is really inspired either way. Bush has never been the problem - the 50% of the electorate who elected him. That's the problem. The 50% of all eligible voters who stayed home watching The Wire and screaming at the Cable News and furiously blogging to their seven friends. That's the problem. The Electoral College would be an irrelevance if either party could foist upon us anyone but a colorless clone who's claim to fame is they claim to suck slightly less than the other guy.

Aren't you slightly amazed or embarrassed that Gore in 2000 did as well or as poorly as he did? Aren't you slightly amazed or embarrassed that Kerry in 2004 stopped campaigning months before the election and simply cruised on autopilot? I mean how hard do you think it should have been to defeat Bush? When are you going to learn the enemy of good is perfect? When are you going to understand that it's better to get elected than it is demand absolute purity that leaves you standing on a street corner screaming until the next election?

Ach - I'm wasting my time with you people. Either you're retarded or deluded. Either way - please go back to hurling insults at me. That's a plan that works.

  • that's not an entirely valid analogy Glenn

The Swift Boat Guys were running a parallel campaign against a Presidential candidate. BOR is a gasbag with a microphone excoriating half the populace of the nation in exchange for money. Isn't it at some point the responsibility of the candidate themselves to fight back? Isn't this what eventually sunk Kerry? Not the accusations but the white glove refusal to engage them? I don't for example recall anyone winning against Joe McCarthy strictly on the munificence of their own intentions and good will. It took standing up to him. But it's also important to pick the fights that matter. Either BOR matters or he doesn't. If he does then he must be engaged as such. But back and forth blogging and halfassed media sniping is meaningless.
