  • It's kind of sad that all you critics don't speak to anyone that age

[Read the article: How the Navy plans to recruit "coddled" kids]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Because it's them telling me that they're spoiled and self absorbed, narcissistic prigs. Of course they blame it on us by telling us it was our telling them they could do and be anything when they were little which has made them angry entitled assholes. But nonetheless that's what they're telling their elders. So maybe the Navy isn't far wrong. I'll never forget freshman orientation when the dean said flat out that we should expect our little jewels to take AT LEAST 5 years (66%), 5.5 years (85%) to graduation their institution and that we shouldn't really press the issue with them because it's pointless to try.

  • Red Meat for the Saloniks

[Read the article: Our rosy future, according to Freeman Dyson]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Anyone who even has a nuanced response to Global Warming is cast out of heaven. Well that was to be expected.

  • Friend of mine has a son who's a Navy doctor on a carrier

[Read the article: How the Navy plans to recruit "coddled" kids]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

FWIW every carrier always comes back with MORE pregnant women than it left with.

  • Black Ministers in Memphis are opposed to this law.

[Read the article: Senate passes Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wow, you never saw that coming did you? Know why? Because it could impinge on their efforts to fight the evil Homosex. It's of little consequence that they have been the targets of hate crimes themselves. If it means they can't queerbash then they don't want it.

    I love watching America die.

  • Bush isn't the problem he never was

[Read the article: The war president "at peace" with himself]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Because he really does represent America. George Bush was the right guy at the right time and you need to disabuse yourselves of this dark conspiracy idiocy. There is no cabal, there is only all the Americans.

  • The end is near

[Read the article: Our rosy future, according to Freeman Dyson]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Everybody panic.

  • Why not just admit

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You're hooked on dour humorless self serious soap operas and leave it at that. In Salon's world comedy is verboten.

  • Anything not perfect

[Read the article: I want a perfect wedding, but my in-laws are trashy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Must therefore be destroyed. Do you want Arbeit Macht Fries with that?

  • A third party will be a win for the GOP

[Read the article: Religious right may blackball Giuliani]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Everyone knows that.

  • And which moron conconcted the speed bumps every 59 feet rule

[Read the article: We paved paradise]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I wish I had that concession. Hundreds and thousands of randomly placed speed bumps. Even on public streets now we have speed bumps every couple of hundred feet. Of course they're actually a safety hazard at that point. After 30 or so speed bumps I just zonk out and drive about 10mph and if I don't go off the road or slam into a pedestrian or something it's a good day.

  • Go watch "Office Space"

[Read the article: The workers I supervise are out of control]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When people are motivated by fear then they do only enough to not get fired. Until they get fired. Your organization's soul is dead and so is yours.

  • You mean FREEEEEEEEEEE parking, don't you?

[Read the article: We paved paradise]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

For instance there's plenty of parking in Raleigh, NC - between parking garages at about $1/hour and the ubiquitous fat assed private contractor meter maid with her tape measure checking to see who's 12" from the curb or 1" over the No Parking line. But in terms of FREEEEEEEEE parking, not so much. And if truth be told, the developers are such cheapskates that mall parking is insufficient on practically any day of the year. Plus don't discount the fact that you need about 3 million spots reserved for the handicapped, pregnant moms and such. I would recommend you get one of those 7 year "temporary" handicap tags. Just about anything short of being blind or dead is a valid reason.

  • Michael Bloomberg spent $88/vote of his own money

[Read the article: Mitt Romney's money machine]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

To be mayor of NYC. And he hits all the nanny state high points like outlawing smoking and transfat. So I guess it depends on which Benevolent Insect Overlord you get.

  • In terms of what? Rhetoric?

[Read the article: Religious right may blackball Giuliani]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The courts are already loaded. They're just waiting for the right case at the right time to pull the trigger(s). It matters little then which screaming retard is President at this point vis a vis these psychochristian 'values' issues. Roe will fall, gays will be criminalized and Jesus will return to the schools. That's a given in the next decade. Heck, I listened to a bunch of nominally 'liberal' minority ministers reject the Hate Crimes Bill because it would limit their raving against homosexuality.

  • Edwards has a big disadvantage

[Read the article: John Edwards banks on sincerity]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

He talks about real issues that have to do with people here in the US today. The left wing of the Democratic party wants to make Iraq and Foreign policy they only issue bar none. It's all Iraq all of the time so any domestic issues have to take a back seat and the people who espouse them are seen as vaguely traitorous. It's a shame really that the Saloniks care more for Iraqis than they do for US citizens.

Go ahead flame me - tell me I'm right.

  • I've always believed AA didn't go far enough

[Read the article: Clarence Thomas casts himself in "Native Son"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Getting in to college doesn't mean that racism ends. AA students should be given a letter grade boost through college as well. And placement at the head of the recruiting and job hunting lines in the college placement programs as well.

  • And the circle of left wing antisemitic raving is complete

[Read the article: "Nazis" and "Hitler" -- the Right's casual, trivializing political insults]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Kudos Glenn. Good job. Jews are officially Nazis here at Salon. Yes of course - at our weekly staff meeting, we determined that your hatred of us is our problem to fix. We own it. Of course.

I officially give up on you Glenn. Salon has made its intentions clear now no one has to wonder any more.

  • What makes you think I was kidding?

[Read the article: Clarence Thomas casts himself in "Native Son"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Affirmative is as affirmative does. I'm dead serious. We need to tip the scales not only in admissions but in actual outcomes as well. What does it proffer anyone if you admit a bunch of people and then too many of them don't finish or don't get as much productive outcome out of the experience? All you've managed to do is assuage someone's bruised ego about admissions. I also tend to believe that all AA students should go for free. Then after a generation or so, revisit the actual outcomes and adjust as necessary.

  • Dunno, he should stick with that Episcopalian thing

[Read the article: John McCain's religious pander]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Considering they're only 2% of the population and there's been at least 10 Episcopalian Presidents. Wow that's better numbers than the secret Jewish Overlord Conspiracy.

  • Would you want your by-pass surgery done by one of these

[Read the article: Clarence Thomas casts himself in "Native Son"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I would ask first. Wouldn't you? It never fails to amaze me how utterly uninterested people are in their own doctor's qualifications. If that graduate is OK with you, that's your decision to make. I have no problem with it.
