Your words are wasted on Joan.

She's heard all this before and for reasons between her and her God, she prefers to remain defiantly, almost impossibly obtuse.

Hers is an uncommonly narrow mind for someone who even remotely pretends to be committed to liberalism.

Actually, I don't know what the problem is and I'll stop now because I'm so infuriated on the one hand, and grieved to my soul, on the other, that all I have now to offer is, well, fury and grievance with some serious misanthropy thrown in regarding my fellow Americans for whom Joan has so courageously decided to speak.

Joan, what the fuck is your problem?

Seriously, with all due respect, what the fuck is your problem?

Step back and look at yourself for five seconds.

In fact, you don't even have to, scores of generally perceptive, sympathetic, generous, forgiving readers have done much of that work for you, if only you'd listen.

Christ, you're obtuse, which is fine, but as I demand you recognize, yours is a sacred trust, as a journalist, a writer, a teacher, an activist, whatever it is you think you are and aspire to be.

Strive to be worthy of your noble calling, for all our sakes!

    Narcissistic?

    You call Wright narcissistic?

    Give me a fucking break.

Look at that, I fell for it again!

    Roped in again!

    Wasting my words on you.

You're a fucking wizard of the hot-button, Joan, I'll grant you that.

I like you and I respect you, Aka. I hope you know that.

But can you please cut the fucking sarcastic quips, just for a short time?: "Maybe it's time for another speech."

Take a step back and look at what's going on, for fuck's sake!!!!

This red-scare, race-baiting lynching of Obama is taking place before our very eyes as people who should know better (like Joan, though I'm beginning to wonder) light up a torch and join the party.

Please, Aka, I urge you, from the core of my being, to step back and look at what's going on.

    Which side are you on?

    My sentiments exactly.

As the spouse and I were watching the carnage unfold on our televisions, the distortions, the ignorance, the bloodlust, our mouths agape, tears nearly flowing, I just shrugged and said, "This is the country we live in."

I don't know whether to be more frightened or saddened.

I do fear the mob, I promise you that, especially when that mob has access to nuclear weapons.

But where is there to go, villemar? The world is small and America's reach is long.

    God help us all.

    Thank you.

Perhaps you're right. I didn't read Aka's whole post, but was skimming. I'm admittedly shaking with rage and fear and sadness as I try to make sense of all this madness, so that's where I'm coming from right now.

I feel like the paralyzed king from Lord of the Rings: "What can men do against such hate?"

The sleep of reason produces monsters, indeed.

    What do you stand for?

  • Jungle Fever (or why Wright=Obama)

    "Sonny, did you vote?

    - I went to PS .

They must've moved. What am I gonna do?

    Walk around all day?

    You guys didn't even

You never voted in your life.

    No wonder Giuliani lost.

    What's the sense of voting?

    Look at Marion Barry,

    smokin' crack

    with his girlfriend...

I mean, the mayor of D.C.,

    the nation's capitol!

What does that have to do

    with David Dinkins?

    - Two different people.

    - He's black!

    There's Marion Barry and

    there's David Dinkins.

    - Black on black.

    - David Dinkins, Marion Barry.

    - Black on black.

    - He's talkin' of Dinkin Donuts.

    One plus one is two...

    two different people.

    They're both black!

    Read the Post."

Or should he have said, "Read Salon!"
