Original article: A party is not a movement

speak for yourself...

I didn't subvert my ideologies to vote for Obama. Most third party advocates did not. We held onto our beliefs that the two-party system is the bane of our society. *Once again* we have been validated in our beliefs. *Once again* we will embark on our journey of effort to convince you good-hearted people that we are correct in our assumptions. *Once-again* we doubt you will wake up from your deception.

I was emotional and hopeful when Obama was elected. And I loved seeing him tell his family he loved them on that victory stage. But, my hope was reserved, and then quickly defeated.

Obama will not fight for the public option. Obama will not scale down the "war." Obama will not roll back any executive powers. Obama is a part of the system. You need to fight that system, for it will relieve you, us, of our liberties.

Great Post, Glenn

It is a great pleasure to read your espousal of peace rhetoric. You learned your trade well, and you are very good at it (lawyer=rhetorician). As someone who believes that the choice of war is a choice which precludes civilized society, I applaud your excellent presentation of the argument against the Industrial Military Complex. You tie it to current events; you present it in historical context; it is well done. Thank you.

unbelievable

it truly is unbelievable that you have any confidence in Obama. He has obviously left those who voted for him in the dust on the trail to secure his own future.

of course, what i hope he doesn't realize is that by doing so he is shooting himself in the foot. the people who voted for him, kind-hearted, good-willed, though somewhat naive people, actually wanted change.

then again, in two more years, you idiots (and i mean that in the most ancient sense) will have forgotten that Obama turned his back on you, and you will blame the Republicans, as if they had anything to do with Obama turning his back on you.

two parties = one massive corporation

Original article: What went wrong?

why

"Barring a major public groundswell or miraculous reversal in Congress, Barack Obama's healthcare reform package will not include the provision that matters most to the Democratic base, the so-called public option."

this will be why there will be a republican elected in 2012.

sense

this really doesn't make any sense, unless we who have called the duopoly the duopoly for many years now are correct (in calling the two parties the duopoly). why doesn't the Democratic party REFORM HEALTHCARE? Take full responsibility for it. make it UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. And then assure that they stay the majority for the next 10-15 years.

???????????????????

If they forced Universal Healthcare on America... it would work. and in 3 years Obama would remain President. yes: they might lose next year. They will do that anyway. But, in three years the reality that Universal Healthcare is working will sink in and victory will be greater than anything yet imagined in American politics.

It doesn't make any sense that the "Dems" are such effing wimps. Unless they are so deeply engaged in the corporatocracy that they have no other choice. For, they would surely win incredible majorities in the next 10 years if they forced UH through...

Dems

If the "Dems" hadn't taken single-payer insurance off the table, there would no-doubt be virulent grassroots reaction to the right-wing protesters. Instead, in typical stealing victory from victory's jaws fashion, the "Dems" have no support for their crappy so-called reform package.

food

there is a meditation where the one meditating doesn't eat food for an entire day and only drinks water / fruit juice. what this meditation's lesson is is that we can live without food (not forever, obviously). it breaks our dependency to just the degree that frees the mind. of course, this is not the same as a dieter starving himself. this meditation is done consciously.

@Glenn: your week away from the internet will be very similar if done consciously. feel the feelings of loss. feel the feelings of need. process them. let them go. :)

peace. derek
