[Read the article: Hillary Clinton, sniper fire and Sinbad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My concern/issue isn't that Hillary may or may not have been in danger. Her version may be true, even if others ont he trip differ...or it may not be cut and dry. In any event, it still gets to a question of judgement and thus truth.

If it was a combat zone where it was possible that she might get shot at, than she's brave for going there BUT STUPID for taking along her teenage daughter. It suggests in that situation that looking like "Elenor Rosevelt" was more important that her child's safety...or the safety of others who had not signed up for a dangerous mission. Kudos to her for taking on a dangerous mission, if that was the case, but bad, bad, bad judgement for taking your teenage child into the war with you.

If she wasn't getting shot at, than she's enhancing her memory with a very romantic view of her role and fighting. In which case it should call into question her basic truthfulness. Reagan used to talk about combat missions and dying pilots from war movies believing they were real...that scared me. If Hillary is inflating an otherwise noble mission in order to creat, post hoc, some sort of phoney "commander in chief" threshold, that's not just simply sad, it is dishonest.

In the end, either interpretation, doesn't reflect well on her or her advisors. AND, this is important, that is too bad because her mission to Bosnia seems to have been genuinely noble. Truth should have been good enough...it apparently isn't, or if true it, IMO, reflects that she is wreckless, at least with her daughter's safety, and that doesn't gibe me confidence that she will be any less cavilar when it comes to our national safety.

See her vote on Iraq and her willingness to authorize the President to do as he pleased...leading us to this terrible place we are in today. No regrets, no second guessing, and remembering the circumstances far differently than others who were there (note Senator Graham).

[Read the article: On Wright, Bill Kristol's wrong again]

White ministers like Hagee and bat-crzay guys like Bill Kristol's father say nutty things all the time -- Katrina is God's wrath for abortion and gay sex, for example, and Iran must be bombed now -- and get away with it all the time. Indeed, they are held up as patriots.

  • The future...

[Read the article: Barack Obama delivers make-or-break speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Like him or not, trust him or not, there is only one candidate in this election who can possibly be a transformational figure...and that is Obama.

That doesn't mean he will achieve it, or anything like it. He could be a failure...but as big and dangerous as George Bush? Hard to imagine.

Like them, trust them, McCain and Clinton are Washington politicitions who will in persuit of their goals play by traditional Washington rules and who ultimately view the world in a very Washington Box. Look at their record on Iraq. Both have acted about the war in entirely predictable ways.

I want to vote for hope. I want to vote for change. I want to vote for the promise of a better future...not a rebirth of the past or a continuation of the present.

I admit it, I may be naive even willfully blind when it comes to Obama...but I've already seen about as much of Hilalry and John McCain as I can possibly stand.

"Obama could walk up to the microphone and fart, and we'd hear Hosannahs and Hallelujahs"

And I wouldn't be the least surprised to hear Hillary give a speech that stated: "As far as I know, cats are not dogs. They have said they aren't dogs, and unless I get different information, I will take the cats at their word. Though I would like to emphasize that I like both cats and dogs, and have for thirty years stood up for the unity of cats and dogs as well as their right to dog and cat diversity. I am uniquely qualified after thirty five years of public service to be able to differnciate between dogs and cats, and I have sat with dogs and cats across the country to listen to their stories of why dogs are dogs and not cats and why cats are cats and not dogs. I have nothing but respect for their positions, and I will continue leading -- as I always have -- firm in the knowldge that dogs may not be cats and cats may not be dogs unless research and analysis of the issues tends to suggest otherwise.

  • The snide take...

[Read the article: Clinton "very glad" Obama gave speech]

I say this knowing I will vote for her if she's the nominee...but not surprised she commented on the speech before reading it or seeing it, she voted for the war without reading the Intelligence Committee report....

    back to regular programming....
