  • Its more than an wonky idea....

[Read the article: Are congressional Republicans doomed?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It requires wilful suspension of disbelief. For Coburn and others to argue that salvation is in the return to conservative values requires voters to close their eyes and ears to the near unanimous cheerleading by "conservatives" for Bush and his policies over the last seven years.

There was very little in the way of principled opposition to spending plans, foriegn policy choices, etc. And, there was universal glee at judicial picks. The GOP liked running the show and through the K Street project and other efforts, they went a far-sight to create Rove's permanent majority and to do so by persuing "conservative" voters, pushing concservative buttons, etc.

In short, they ignored the middle and Clintonian triangulation, etc. to try and build a conservative, permanent, ideological majority. If they are to lose now, it is because they hewed pretty closely to modern American conservatism in all of its blind fury rather than a reasoned, rational approach that would have called for co-opting the oposition by bringing it along.

The deserve the fate I think the gods are going to deal them in Congressional and Senate races this fall.

  • I believe...

[Read the article: Clinton makes appeal to superdelegates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

President Kerry also had a lead in the polls at this stage in the campaign against George Bush. All it really shows is that, like her vote for the Iraq war and on such items as banning flag burning, Hillary is driven by polls not by ideology, what is right, leadership or what maybe her own idea. Her argument, essentially, is finger to the wind, I am polling better (and relying on Rove data to boot! The old fart must be laughing his head off!).

  • And another thing...

[Read the article: Clinton makes appeal to superdelegates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I wonder if we can assume that this body of evidence proving her to be a more viable candidate based on the polls...was put together by the her political master guru, Mark Penn...he who charted such a brilliant campaign for her coronation that he forgot to figure out how she would actually obtain the crown.

  • Of course it ws an endorsement...

[Read the article: Hamas' "unendorsement" of Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Alex why don't you know that one IslamoFacist radical can and does speak for all IslamoFacist radicals. IF the guy said he liked Obama, that means that all Arabs thus, ipso facto, ergo, all IslamoFacist terrorists want Obama to win. Why? Because they know that he is a). secretely a muslim and b). has a stealthy plan to undermine the white power establishment in this country a'la the Birth of a Nation. He is but a tool of the large IslamoFacist/Afro-Centric Illuminati conspiracy which, oddly enough, was organized and funded by the Jews.

Come on man, get it together.

  • When...

[Read the article: McCain: Timeline of Iraq withdrawal "not too important"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Are McCain's comments ever in context? He says these things and than distances himself from them claiming the context is missed...not unlike his inability to distinguish what are the waring parties in Iraq.

  • Ah, but we have proof...

[Read the article: The "angry white women" problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That women voters can't respond as well to their political choices as men do...for that matter, we have proof that men can't either. In 2004, a majority of men and women voted for George Bush over John Kerry. Now, just a short three years later, Bush is universally regarded as a dismal failure as president. Indeed, for all of Kerry's many shortcomings, it is difficult to see how he could have been anything but a substantial improvement over Bush. Hindsight, of course, is always 20/20, but Men and Women both neglected their own plitical, economic, moral and ethical interests to re-elect George Bush.

Why shouldn't McCain believe he can get them -- both men and women -- to do it again? A little fear, a little smear, a little disapointment and bingo...you've won Ohio.

  • Arrogant...

[Read the article: Rove: Obama "coolly arrogant" ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    As in uppity "N......"? Wow.

But you got to admit, working with all those crazy neoCons, Rove would know arrogant.

Actually, Obama is so far from a "country club" type as to make this really quite pathetically laughable.

  • We're not in Kansas anymore...

[Read the article: Monday's campaign roundup]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Nor is Mitch McConnell from Kansas.

  • So let's get this straight...

[Read the article: McCain reboots, gives rise to the Rovians]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In order to distance his campaign from Bush and convince America that his election would not be George Bush's third term, McCain hires a posse of Bush/Rove functionaries.

    So Machiavellian. So Rove.

  • I can tell you McCain's solutions:

[Read the article: Another discouraging month on the jobs front]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We're in a hole, let's keep digging. Clearly cutting taxes, running up the deficiet on a pointless war, and rewarding the top 2% in the hopes that they'll trikle it down is working brilliantly....

[Read the article: Another discouraging month on the jobs front]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You don't follow Bush/McCain 'onomics. If you are a Republican and your policies help cause the loss of jobs, that is ok because losing jobs helps to creat jobs whereas, in this view, the Democrat policy would cause the loss of jobs that would only lead to the increas of lost jobs. I.e., GOP lost jobs are the right kind of lost jobs...i.e. good jobs for losing as opposed to Dem. policies which are lost jobs that are good that they are lost. See? It all works out for the best...of course and unless it is your job that is being lost.

  • Any Emmy nomination list

[Read the article: Hey, Emmy voters! Don't forget ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That doesn't include Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad has no meaning as a measure of acting excellence...one person's opinion.

  • Friday Night Lights...also

[Read the article: Hey, Emmy voters! Don't forget ...]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Great acting that should be recognized.

The only actor in Law and Order CI worth a nomination is Chris Noth...when he's not on the show is unbarable.

  • "it's ALL lumpy in there!"

[Read the article: Are breast self-exams worth it?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When my primary care doc asked me at my recent annual physical if I did regular breast exams, I said "no." And he said, "but you'll start tomorrow, right?" And I said "I'd tell you yes, but it would be a lie - it's ALL lumpy in there!" And a light went on in his eyes and he said "Okay, that's a legitimate reason not to do it, and you shouldn't feel guilty if you don't. I completely understand." I schedule my yearly mammograms like clockwork, and that's just going to have to be good enough. With my doc and the ACS signing off, I feel a lot better about it now.
