The Big Lie...
[Read the article: McCain's misguided role model on deficit reduction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Continues to be that McCain fails to recognize or to condemn or deal with the fact THAT IT WAS HIS PARTY that created the current budget, fiscal and economic crisis. The people who are going to nominate him for president are the people who controlled the government for the last seven years and took us from a surplus to a huge and growing deficiet. This didn't happen in a vacum. It happened on Bush's watch and Bush has endorsed McCain. This is all some smoke and morrors campaign to deflect questions away from where the GOP has been and, if he is elected president, who is going to be advising him on the economy? THE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE IN CHARGE OF IT NOW.
What a joke.

Classified: idiot
[Read the article: House Republican blasts Obama as "that boy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Indeed, what was this classified security program, and why is this idiot talking about it?
Also, as a minor and relatively undistinguished congressman, whay was he included?
Sounds like some tax dollaras being wasted here.

The important point...
[Read the article: McCain confused about Petraeus' job, chain of command]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is that he may not know what he is talking about, but he isn't an elitist. He's the kind of guy you'd want to have over for a beer....Wait a minute, that sounds like some other President we know.

That Hillary...
[Read the article: Did the "bitter" flap affect the race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You hear her talk and it sounds nice, but then you see the video and the truth is dramatically different then she explained it...

Yes...there are polls showing...
[Read the article: Did the "bitter" flap affect the race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, there is also some credible analysis by CQ that shows that after all is said and done, Hillary will pick up about three delegates...which, to paraphrase Andrew Sullivan...is probably why her campaign is doing John McCain's work for him as they've got nothing left save for verbal slip-ups to throw back at Obama.

It suggests...
[Read the article: Poll trajectory points to trouble for Clinton campaign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That people understand more than ever that she will say practically anything to get elected. While Obama has "gaffs" she has a historical pattern of remaking reality to fit the Clinton vision that stretches way back. BTW, the big lie isn't the Bosnia flap (though because it was on tape it is the most obvious) it is the on-going claim of thirty-five years of experience that have prepared her for this moment. And, as NWES likes to point out all of the little things that McCain will use to destroy Obama, it is this claim of "experience" that will be used against Hillary. Democrats can't win the "experience" campaign this year, it has to be about something else...a vision of the future, an understanding of the present and the perception of a willingness to confront tough problems. McCain can't win that battle...and all Hillary has is imaginary stories of her past love of guns and her cork-screw landings.

Its the country ....stupid.
[Read the article: How to interpret a dead-even horse race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]At the end of the day, whether Obama or Clinton, the simple truths of this period in time will remain. 1. We will still be at war. 2. The Administration and McCain will still have no clear way out of the war (or to achieve the "victory" they say they want. 3. Billions/Trillions will be going to that war at a time when: 4. More Americans will be losing jobs or fearing their ability to find jobs. 5. Americans will still be afraid for their homes. 6. The general economy will at best be sluggish and at worse in recession. 7. Gas prices will be higher than ever. 5. 45+ million Americans will still have no health insurance. 8. Those that do have insurance will be in real fear of losing it. 9. McCains response to these problems will sound like re-hases of the Bush solution.
In the end, democrats will come home regardless of the candidate because either Obama or Clinton is better than McCain...on every issue. It will be clear that their positions are not that different, so those worried about the state of the country, their jobs, etc. will hold their nowse and vote for Obama or Hillary (depending on where they started...I for example, will gladly vote Hillary over McCain even though I dislike her because the stakes are that high).
McCain gets the temporary benefit of the Democratic shooting match and what I think is a certain amount of expected fatigue with the Democratic race. However, when all is said and done the world will be just as fucked up in September when the national race starts for real, and while they will through a lot of mud, those pictures of Bush embracing McCain will drive home the point that McCain=4more of the same.
