Frankly when it comes to the security of this nation and its citizens I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling donut what ANYONE thinks. Though against the invasion of Iraq, I was and remain a supporter of our actions in Afghanistan. I am not a Democrat, though I'm registered as one. Nor am I liberal. I am a Progressive-Leftist in the tradition of Eugene V. Debs, Lincoln Steffens, Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky and many other American leftists with the capacity to actually think, rather than react. This is not 1915, and these latest immigrants are not arriving in a controlled and controllable manner at Ellis Island or Angel Island in San Francisco. This is a completely out-of-control, illegal migration of people who come here to find work. Most of the money from that work gets repatriated back to Mexico, to the point that now, if it were to end, the Mexican economy would tank. So essentially the majority of these people are parasites.

And thank you for conveniently ignoring my statement that those with children born here would be the only ones offered amnesty. THAT'S what I wrote, not some nonsense about separating families. Stop acting like a jackass and lying about what I write. And finally, I don't believe for one second that other nations have a right of refusal for the deportation of illegal immigrants. People are deported all the time and, except in extreme political circumstances, they are taken back by their nations of origin. And remember I said it would take time, and did not put a hard-and-fast timeline on the mass deportation which I suggested.

The views and influence of people like you are going to be the death of this nation every bit as much as those of the neo-cons. For God's sake, stop it!

I couldn't agree more, that is, it COULD have been Wagnerian. Just one problem: George Fucking Lucas, the Black Hole of Cinema. "The Revenge of the Sith" is marginally less of a disaster than "The Phantom Menace" and the other one, but not by much. If it - and they - had been directed by someone other than Lucas there would have been a chance that we would have cared enough about the characters to actually feel something at the climax of "..Sith."

Most of the folks I know felt nothing, a kind of depressing emptiness that what we had so longed for had been so unbelievably botched. And then Lucas announces he's not "doing" film anymore. This cineaste can only say, on behalf of the art itself, "Thank you, Mr. Lucas."

And Paglia? Her rhapsodizing about "..Sith" just shows that there is something seriously wrong with her. I can't believe that a woman of her education and intellect could actually LIKE such drivel, so there must be something else going on. I just hope it isn't the first signs of Alzheimer's.
