Here's a recent study reporting additional progress in identifying the genetic causes of autism. In short, many cases of autism occur when a child has genetic mutations that prevent their brain from making certain proteins. They have the gene for the protein, but there's a mutation in the part of their DNA that tells their brain to make the protein.http://www.hhmi.org/news/walsh20080711.html
This has nothing at all to do with mercury. I'm a member of the Genetics Society of America, and based on what I've seen at conferences and read in current peer-reviewed articles by bonafide resarchers, the research that's explaining the biological basis of autism has absolutely NO connection to mercury or other toxins. Either they lack certain genes, the genes can't be read properly, or they have too many copies of certain genes. These changes are inherited from the parents, not caused by substances ingested after birth.
Earlier studies found mutations that could be replicated in mice or other mammals and were found to create autistic-type behavior. Mercury exposure, on the other hand, causes a completely different set of symptoms. Nor was autistic-type behavior observed in animals used for testing vaccines. That's old news and can be located easily at pubmed.gov.
I did do my homework -- namely a look on Google to see if the book you cite so strongly has been referenced by any reputable medical entities. So far, it hasn't. But known crackpot sites love it to pieces.
Also, how does your one book -- whose research data you won't even state was actually peer-reviewed by actual experts in the field and which was published by an outfit called "New Atlantean Press" -- somehow debunk the reams and reams and reams of studies, some of which I cited in previous posts in this thread, that were done by actual medical scientists?
In case Nonpartisan missed them:
1) Link to actual studies on vaccines (http://letters.salon.com/env/vital_signs/2009/07/30/huffington_post/permalink/9e148512ce08088a4ec63dd2b8b09555.html)
2) Link to cite of study showing genetic link to autism -- remember, the antivaxers say it's caused by chemicals the child encounters after being born (http://letters.salon.com/env/vital_signs/2009/07/30/huffington_post/permalink/7ee64f57ec5fc1716656271f4b479b74.html)
Please show how the book you cite manages to debunk all those peer-reviewed studies.
Remember how Star Wars fans took advantage of The Phantom Menace's being digitized to create The Phantom Edit -- wherein, among other things, Jar Jar Binks' character was stripped of the Stepin Fetchit vocal trappings and given a more dignity-enhancing speech style?
Will there be enough digit geeks in the Julia Child fan base to make "Julia: The Phantom Edit"?

Proof yet again that Salon letters-section habitués are not even close to being representative of the nation as a whole. (Yeah, I'm looking at you, Brightstar, something stinks, and Steele the First.)
They tried to be bipartisan too, and look what it got them: a crippled presidency.
Of course, one suspects that in both cases, what's really going on is that the Blue Dogs get so much dough from the crooks who run our private insurance and health industry that they will never vote for their country's best interests unless we find and threaten to publish pictures of them frolicking with goats.
As the rest of the world's media (including the UK's) is not afraid to report honestly, there are serious doubts as to al-Megrahi's guilt. He was very likely a patsy. Google "megrahi innocent" for more info.
1) Teddy already made his horse trade -- he gave up on single payer, or "Medicare for all" as he called it, in order to get Republicans on board with the public option. But they won't go for it; instead, they and the Blue Dogs and Max Baucus will only back co-ops and forcing Americans to buy crappy insurance that doesn't protect them and costs way too much.
2) Why is it that none of the Republicans screaming "Chappaquiddick!" ever express similar outrage over Laura Bush's killing her ex-boyfriend (http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/laura.asp) when she smacked into his car round about the time Teddy had his own unfortunate car accident?
Everyone: The next time TUTR shows up, just keep repeating this icky truth that frightens him:
"Laura Bush snuffed her ex-boyfriend with her car."
Unfair to characterize an accident this way? Exactly - just as what TUTR does is unfair. Make him admit it.
What, nobody's ever heard of Emma Peel?
When I wasn't Emma Peel, I was an international jewel thief -- being a small-built girl made it easier to shimmy past the alarm systems, of course -- or Wonder Woman's younger sister.
The dirty little secret of childhood is that kids are wired to be assertive, even aggressive, in varying degrees. Even the pink-wearers have a little designer shiv -- in their imaginations, at least -- tucked away in all that tulle. (Flouncy skirts make great places to stash ordnance.)
