Prattle and palaver

I'm oversaturated, sure, but I took a break from the Sunday shows for a period of time and it helped. I can't watch them now because it's...nothing, and a waste of time.

It's the same group of people that appear to have sketchy credentials, really. They went to college? They work at a paper? He has a TV Show?

It's all gas, time-filler. These are terribly NON-expert opinions given the context and these people are bald careerists, supercilious and silly.

How is it allowed that Tim Russert moderates a "debate". That Bret Hume gets to have a presence anywhere?

They think they're kingmakers. That's their dirty little secret. They'd like us to think them ennobled by the ethics of their profession when it's only so much window-dressing.

This is why they congratulate each other and chortle at the "gotchas" and cozy with the political class. They think they're them....

....and so they are and what they all are in aggregate is the Corporate Enabling Machine, shoving it down our throats, sticking it up our asses 24/7/365.

Dig it.

I dunno

I just watched half of the Obama video. Seems like the kind of boilerplate feel-good groovy entertainment-culture signifying video one would expect from a contemporary campaign.

Skews young and Hollywood...does that scare Rich Lowry? Maybe Rich is afraid of his inner hip-hop?

Where the hell has Andrew Leonard been? He's a journalist?

This blows my mind. This issue has been well-known for years. Eisenhower signed a bill!?

How about General Motors/Firestone Tires and the Federal Government colluding to dismantle all the light rail systems in the US? Los Angeles used to have a bunch?

More people dependent on public transportation years ago? Duh. Would it ever occur to Andrew that most families had ONE car, IF they had a car?

What the hell....

Original article: Quote of the day

I feel bad for his wife. Otherwise, who really cares?

Really. Waste of news space. In a better world this shouldn't be a crime or any of our business.

Tuesday, March 11, 2008 03:46 PM

This is b.s. What is this topic doing in this person's tech column?

What a crock of sh*t. Why is this columnist wasting further news space reporting this? You examined the prostitutes web site?

Either go find some real news or go play with your iPhone, doof.

An underlying premise is faulty

Glenn wrote:

"The phrases "anti-American" and "America-haters" are among the most barren and manipulative in our entire political lexicon, but whatever they happen to mean on any given day, they easily encompass people who believe that the U.S. deserved the 9/11 attacks, devastating hurricanes and the like."

This extension of logic is not supported. To take a stance of contrition and to feel that, given one's moral beliefs, the US has made mistakes or grievous errors is not to be de facto anti-American or "haters" of America.

One can be a patriot and know when one is wrong.

See: Cake, let them eat

Heads on pikes baby. Believe it.

Thursday, March 27, 2008 08:00 PM

@Greeneyedkzin

I'm the one who'll applaud "heads on pikes".

You don't "get it", do you? I should be worried that I'll lose my high-paying job being a bike messenger for Wall Street? Being a temp without health benefits working the 9pm to 6 am shift to make PowerPoints for 27-year-old Masters of The Universe?

FYI, I don't have a job. I can't find a job. I haven't had health coverage in a decade. I've got nothing to lose, fool.

There are others like me. Reasonable types like you will be standing in the bread lines, stunned. I'm already over it and have moved on.

Canned goods baby, that's where to put your coin.

Calm down

Please calm down. E.O. Wilson is a brilliant man. We all know what he meant. And he's right, of course.

Original article: The Starbucks economy

Canary in a coal mine

A couple of weeks ago I was doing some on-line work and took a break to read a column on either this site or one like it and some so-called "expert" was being quoted on the collapsing economy.

The person was responding to the question of what sign would concern them as an economic indicator and their opinion was to start worrying when people started selling their personal possessions on ebay.

Funny, that was what I'd been doing on-line before I took a break to read. Selling my personal possessions on ebay is the only way I made April rent.

Don't know what I'll do for May.

P.S. Starbucks? Haven't shopped there in years, really. Scaled back on that shit a long time ago. Once again the reportage is way behind the reality.

Oops, sorry, right hair color, wrong genre.

Obama ate a deviled egg today...

and some Republican howled how he's killing unborn chickens.

@asl sandiego: slim? Gained weight? What the f*#$%!

So she needs to be slim in order to have worth in your eyes?

Thursday, June 12, 2008 10:17 AM

@ elephantman

You'd relinquish a fundamental right and 200 years of law because a mere 3,000 people got crisped? Get real.

I agree with vaporland

I think the publishing of this Shapiro piece is simply behind the curve of real events, despite the speed of the internet.

This Obama vote is white-hot news, egregious and unexpected, at least to me though I'm hardly prescient.

The next noise we'll hear will be the huge sucking sound of potential Obama voters like me being thrown out into the vacuum of our own despair.

Zappa was right, the torture doesn't stop.

The logical disconnect is dishonest...and appalling

McCain says we have to tap into our "...vast...oil reserves"?!?!?

If we, the U.S of A., have vast reserves, why have we EVER bought oil from a foreign source?

See, eventually these politicians get so speech-addled that the snake bites it's tail and the result is incoherent nutty talk.

Like when they "misspeak". Dirty liars, most of 'em, lie to your momma's face.

Protecting children from themselves

Tracy Hyphenated-Last-Name can snark all she wants but there's little doubt that immature sexuality and immature impulse control add up to the need to neutralize sexual signaling.

The adolescent male psyche sexualizes anything and will approach frenzy if properly stimulated. Be as PC as you like but Susie's little pants read "Juicy" and Johnny's got a raging boner and is on the edge of feral.
