I'm not getting this....

Is this based on a premise that there are only two halves to political America: Democratic and Republican?

I am neither and I support either on a completely conditional basis. Bush could not continue, now we're giving Obama his shot. Patience on every agent's part will vary but I'm not going to keep my mouth shut about anything.

(And I need to add that the trolls who haunt these columns are annoying and useless to dialogue.)

But who's assuming Obama/Emmanuel are "we"?

Christ, I need a drink.

@ Old Poor Richard

You wrote:

"Time to clobber Obama bin Lyin for his police state antics and giveaways to criminal bankers."

You see, this is not helpful. You have every right to be cranky. But all that of which you complain began under Bush and we need to see what Obama does. At this point in 2009, to throw around the "bin Lyin" canards displays the patience level of a child.

We're in this together, we'll get out of this together. But unless you're heading to the barricades way ahead of me, juvenile name calling impedes any progress or resolution.

Republicans no longer have any credibility on any issue

There will be no bipartisanship because none is needed.

Original article: Dr. Laura outdoes herself

Womens' motivations

you wrote:

"it's the way Dr. Laura makes it sound like her marriage was primarily motivated by the desire to have children."

You seem to need to take her to task for this when I know women who's reproductive plans were the only reason to get married.

You want to denigrate her but this isn't the way. The nannies and daycare and baby sitters issue was plenty.

Nutty kids

Always stuffing themselves into phone booths and such. Seeing who'll win a dogma-swallowing contest.

Hey, So's yer old man! :)

The article ends with a quote from Wm. Kristol: Why?

William Kristol does not have a valid opinion on any subject and should be ignored in all instances. He wrote a column for the New York Times for an entire year and virtually every column was wrong-headed, factually incorrect, incoherent or all three.

So why is he being quoted here? Because Media Matters quoted him? Why is credence continually given to these pundits whose track record approaches zero?

Really, why is this, how do we rid ourselves of these meaningless voices and move on to opinionators who have substance and erudition?

I've been told that a free market eventually sifts out the best but that's not true, is it? It simply sifts out the most marketable or best marketed, not the best quality.

I want to live in a country where quality and integrity count and I get my information from smart people. Not W. Kristol.

Original article: Me vs. G. Gordon Liddy

Did he call you "Joanne"?

It's not any fun unless he tries to psyche you with low-level tactics.

Speaking of David Rivkin, he got to contribute his further justification of torture in the New York Times today along with the torture apologist Kori Schake, a former Bush Administration operative.

The only optimistic note I can sound is to speculate that Obama, by letting the torturing operatives themselves off-the-hook, may be clearing the way for prosecuting the real culprits at the highest level.

We'll see.

Thansk Joanne, er Joan.

@ nancerich

What the hell was that about? This article sounded like straight reportage to me, an article as to how Sarah Palin was chosen, and yet you vilify Alex Koppelman as a McCain apologist?

Wow, angry much? It's called decaf. Check it out.

Original article: "Crank: High Voltage"

The Transporter movies were gratuitous crap too

Let's not pretend they weren't.

Pretty people, cars and crappy dialogue do not a movie make.

@ Josef Gancz: the cowardice of expediency

Sure, Josef, we're going to turn our backs on what is one of the most heinous crimes in the modern era: the betrayal of our dearly-held values and, y'know, actual crimes against humanity committed by our leaders.

This isn't about causing some trouble for some CIA careerists, Josef, this is at the highest levels of our government.

Wise up, your ignorance and attitude are shocking and deplorable. A coward of expedience are you?

Sunday, April 19, 2009 10:47 AM

@ NorCalNative: the other side of the coin of the idiocy of impatience

Well, first up we got Josef who wants to forget everything and next up is from the other end of the pool, NorCalNative, who is so bloodthirsty that the cool, methodical and deliberate progress that this process will require is deemed irrelevant and wants Obama's head in the first few months of his Presidency.

What did Bugs Bunny say? What a bunch of maroons.

@ Calif Mike: The protections of our rule of law.

Calif Mike wrote:

"As to the U.S. Constitution, wasn’t it designed for the U.S. citizens? Does it apply to the foreign terrorists whose goal is to destroy America?"

The rule of law and the protections of the U.S. Constitution apply at all times to all people who fall within our sphere of power, just as the Geneva Convention applies to all involved in war.

There is no parsing of who is or isn't an "enemy combatant" and we draw no distinctions between "types" of human beings when it comes to fairness, justice and equality before the law.

This is what imbues our country with greatness and makes us an exemplar to the world. Any other points-of-view are wrong-headed or amoral notions encoded by venal politicians (i.e. corporate protections, distinctions on levels of humanity) and should be stricken from our heritage.

@ TrilliumBabe: regarding Ocean Grove, NJ

You wrote:

"In Ocean Grove, NJ,...There were no other reception facilities in Ocean Grove, they have to pick a Church venue rather than a public or commercial one?!"

You've obviously never been to Ocean Grove, NJ. It's the size of a McMansion's backyard. It's a Jersey Shore town founded as a religious community in the late 1800s. It is literally a few blocks large. There is likely no other public gathering place outside of the church except for the small town square.

This would normally be a case of you jumping to conclusions but OG is so small you can be excused on this one teensy-tiny issue.

Step up, step up, who shall defend this?

Stand and deliver. I dare you.

@ yohimbo7

Just my opinion, but I think:

Rumsfeld = the resentful Shemp

Bush = the hapless Larry

Cheney = the curdled Moe
