@ Benny74 Oh, one more thing Benny

Benny 74

You asked, "who let me out of my cage". Well, you did, actually.

You don't know this but I'm your Salon Buddy®.

You see, once a person of your ilk begins to infest these comment boards, spouting useless, antagonistic drivel, Salon calls up various volunteers to Be Their Buddy®.

Atop my monitor I have a little web cam-like device that lights up and makes a little "ding" every time you post! It's a Salon Buddy Alert®!

Now I can't be everywhere at once as apparently you can. My life has responsibilities that prevent constant vigilance or chaperoning you for every little tidbit of wisdom you leave behind.

But don't ever think you're not on my mind.

Buddy®.

@mjwalker

Chyron is a brand name. It's a character generator (an electronic lettering device) that video editors use to run the lines of type over video programming.

Hope that helps.

His name is NorbitBoy

I wish you folks would treat him with more respect. It's NorbitBoy, like after the Eddie Murphy movie.

Damn libs, always wrong!

Words matter, even Jim Lehrer's

Jim Lehrer made an interesting slip-of-tongue in posing one of his questions early in the debate.

I don't have playback to pinpoint the moment, but in asking a question he typified the role of the president (in our society) by saying: "As ruler of (this country)..."

I was dumbstruck. As ruler?!

The President is the executive. He isn't our ruler. Hell, he doesn't even run the country.

I like Jim Lehrer but is this slip telling of the wrongheadedness of the best of our press?

Did anyone else catch this gaffe?

@AnnieW

You're right, certainly. I was responding to this specific a.m. appearance of Big Bill on the teevee machine. And, as another poster noted, Bill is all about Bill.

There is plenty of blame to go around and I'm not a Democrat but I get so tired of the previously-named weasels posting here with nothing but negativity. Yesterday I backtracked one of them who's not just a astroturfer but has been posting here with hundreds of posts over the course of the last 18 months.

Virtually ever one of the posts were black, hateful bile-filled reactions with no constructive intent whatsoever. Not that's not necessarily true of all the ne'er-do-wells I've highlighted. One or two of them may actually think they are offering constructive points-of-view...but only barely.

I do my best to lead a positive life but the snark within me finds it hard to resist such clowns.

@ChangetheChange

I know what you mean, the story has been up for over 20 minutes fer crissakes.

It's been my experience that Elfantman, tiberian, berlek98, shooter007, and many of the Troll Army have specific assignments to get up early so that they can plop the first post into place.

It was my impression that their overseers have them on a point system that if they can get here first they earn points towards coffee go-cups and foam beer-can coolers. Oh, yeah, and those big foam hands that say "We're #1".

Give any of them a huge foam cowboy hat and a "We're #1" giant foam hand and they're stylin'! For the old guys there are the "Sarah is HOTT!" buttons.

Original article: I am not a hockey mom

Meaning of the term

My cultural take is that the term "soccer mom" and it's antecedents and variations are an identifier for stay-at-home moms who chauffeur their sports-playing kids to their sports meetings or other extra-curricular activities. It's not an association with the sport per se.

I'm sure you knew that and I'm in complete agreement with your point-of-view. This cultural identification is actually an attempt to divide and control women with what I would call a "false cohort". There are too many variations in women's experience for it to be true; plenty of career women have children they take to after-school activities. Dads too, right? Hey, maybe you're a tee-ball mom, a GOTH mom, maybe "just a mom".

Divide and conquer.

Original article: I am not a hockey mom

@ SueNJ97

Wow, hostile much?

No one said playing hockey was a political ploy. No one said that moms who attend to their hockey-playing spawn were anything except self-sacrificing attentive parental units.

However, if you don't recognize that the cliche is a cultural meme designed to screw with moms politically then you need some schoolin'.

What got up your ass?

Make the Rich Pay

OK, we need a bailout.

Make the rich people pay. Rich people owe it to America to pay. We're what allowed them to become rich.

MAKE THE RICH PEOPLE PAY.

The Palin "Brand"?!

You wrote:

"How can the Republicans relaunch this flawed product?"

Parse that statement and you will find everything that's wrong with America.

Be ashamed.

Original article: The dumbing down of the GOP

assholeness

This article just proves that flasher3838 is more of an asshole than the rest of you. S/he's a stupid poster who thinks s/he is much less of an asshole than he actually is. The sheer stupidity of the lame retort to Joe Conanson's article makes one wonder why anyone would ever want to read anything posted by this guy again. Flasher 3838, stop being an idiot and think like an open minded person should.
