...who needs Repugs?
"Antoinette Yachta, a steelworker from Throop, Pa., near Scranton. She isn't sure who she'll vote for in the primary, though she's leaning toward Obama, and she might still vote for John McCain in November. (In 2004, she volunteered for John Kerry's campaign, then voted for Bush.)"
WTF??!! I'm sick and tired of these waffly morons ruining my country. Clinton won Texas because a bunch of scaredy cat soccer moms saw her 3 a.m. ad the night before the primary. Now this bozo pollutes our party with her lizard-brained decision-making process. Get out of my party, retards...
David Larry notes he has not lost his law license yet. There should be a concerted campaign by the legal profession to support him in his defense, but to do so, we'd need to know which state. Does Joe Conason or anyone else know?
Lori Moschella-Keller, a nurse's assistant, is a registered Democrat who plans to vote for Clinton. Part of the reason: "I have a real problem with Obama saying on the news that his country is so important to him, but he can't put his hand on his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance."
I know a number of people have commented already, but I must pile on. I am exhausted by the constant stream of ignorant Democrats looking for an excuse not to vote for the black guy. They always have their facts wrong (it was the Star-Spangled Banner, stupid) and they latch on to one incredibly stupid factoid to justify their "decision." I've said it before and I'll say it again: You all need to get out of my party and stop polluting it with your willful ignorance.
All you patriots out there; I believe you were all at the hockey game I attended last week. Not a hand over a heart during the anthem, but a hell of a lot of hootin' an a-hollerin', completely drowning out the singer. You have not the slightest sense of the dignity to be accorded this tradition, and then have the gall to question Obama's patriotism. You don't deserve to call yourselves citizens.
"The Jeremiah Wright controversy and the hoopla surrounding it tell me that the realities of African-American history and culture are not really American. The African-American story is not an American story. That African-Americans are downright un-American and have to prove, according to people like Peggy Noonan, how American we are, when the white candidates have already had their Americanness vetted simply for having white skin."
I just printed that paragraph out and sent it to Peggy Noonan c/o the WSJ. Hope you don't mind; maybe everybody should do the same.
It distills to a few words exactly what was so offensive about that column. Thanks, Taritac, for saying it so beautifully.
This is exactly what that piece of crap Pennsylvania voter ("Nash"???) did to Obama at the last debate when she asked him whether he loved the flag. When neither Clinton nor the debate moderators were wearing a flag pin, nor had either Clinton or McCain worn one since I can remember, yet only Obama is questioned about his patriotism.
Sorry to pile on, but I have to join the other posters and ask you to stop reporting EMPLOYEE donations as if they are CORPORATE donations.
I am a lawyer and I work for a big bank. I am sure that in all these "studies" and "news reports" I am counted as a "trial lawyer" and an "investment banker." I give to candidates as a private person. My company's PAC, which is composed of employee contributions, gives to all kinds of candidates and causes, most of which I find execrable and so of course I don't contribute to the PAC.
The mainstream media always gets this wrong. Don't you do it too.
Michelle Obama is a great speaker in her own right. Having heard her in person, she has the same eloquence and intelligence as Barack, but has her own wonderful way of connecting with the audience. She really hasn't been seen in a national venue yet, and she should be. She'll be a great help to Obama and the Democratic Party.
I know this was touched on in Broadsheet, but the only other place I've seen this mentioned was a letter to the editor in the NYT.
The fact is, Palin has used to language of choice in connection with both her and her daughter's pregnancy. She said she and her husband made the "decision" to have Trig after learning he had Down syndrome. She said she was proud of her daughter's "decision" to have her baby.
I want the mainstream media to acknowledge the tragic irony that Palin appreciates the fact that she and her daughter have a choice - a choice they exercised in private without government interference. Yet, Palin and her ilk blithely would deny that choice to any other woman, even in case of rape or incest.
On a trip to Alaska a few years ago, I was shocked by the amount of trash on the roadsides and in the water. The relative we were visiting explained that Alaska had so much land that people didn't worry much about polluting it.
This is emblematic of the worst of the Alaska attitude that Palin epitomizes - we're Alaskans, proud frontiersmen, we do whatever we want and we're proud of it, including sh*t where we eat.
Unconscientious is an understatement.
As a Democrat, I'd prefer that Palin stay in the race and self-destruct before our eyes, bringing down the whole ticket with her. But as an American, I have to agree with the normally odious Parker: Sarah, dear, please put Country First and step down. A President Palin will destroy the United States of America. Breathtaking incompetence combined with the usual Repuglican proud and willful ignorance, with a generous topping of evangelical zeal, will destroy our country and our Constitution.
And given McCain's visibly precipitous decline in health, a Palin Presidency would be all too likely, all too soon.
