"A safe house in Afghanistan"??? Let's see - in Afghanistan on 9/11/2001 the Taliban were in firm control of the government and the countryside. al Qaeda was in Afghanistan as a guest of the Taliban.
Why would the al Qaeda 9/11 plotters need a "safe house"? Smells to high heaven to me.
