You completely missed the point. If you don't think the derogatory and sexist language of some rap has permeated the culture, talk to a middle school or even elementary school teacher in a public school. You have revealed your elitest roots. talk about dumb!

Yes these girls were victims of a racial slur and they fought back, good for them. But for one to say she was scarred forever and to have so many falling allover themselves to feel their tremendous pain and suffering? Please. I do not support the firing of Imus. It is fascinating to read the self-rightous comments by all the people on this board who are so proud that they never listened to him or only once and twice yet are fully capable to pass judgement. Yet they can't accept being called thought police or a member of a witchhunt. Read Wm Burroughs folks. Control is thriving thanks not only to the crazy right but the pathetic left

Great, you are judging someone only on his looks and age, so intelligent! Isn't this what the Imus witchhunt was about, he judged some one on their looks. so are these the new rules it is okay if someone is white and old to pile on. amazing how many letters here reference his age, and how proud people are to judge someone on second hand comments. so many are far too pure to accually sully their delicate sensibilities by listening to his show. Reminds me of the puritans who want to ban books because they found the dirty parts without reading the whole book. The wiff of facsism is abit strong today.

  • Fox?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Joan did you honestly suggest that Fox would give a platform to a man who has been railing againest bush, cheney and the war or are you attacking a guy to whom you never listened? Accually Fox hiring a guy that called Cheney a war criminal would probably further infuriate you. Any book burnings you want to celebrate today?

  • I was wrong, manyctnj

Sadly, my notion that Salon readers are more intelligent than the norm has been sorely tested. Manyctnj seems to think he/she should be able to police all thought and ideas that he/she finds offensive. So things aren't totalitarian enough for you? People like Frank Rich,Bill Maher and Maureen Dowd liked going on the show because it was about the only uncontrolled area in the media. Sure Imus crossed the line, and he paid the p.c price. But why stop censoring radio and television shows you never listen to or watch? There are tons of offensive books out there. I am sure Manyctnj can light the first match. King, your readers are a abunch of selfrightous control freaks. You must be so proud.

  • Yes, Joe It can happen here

Joe, Thanks for celebrating the blanding and speech policing of America. You and Joan Walsh are doing your self-rightous parts. The readers who agree with your opinions seem to think those who enjoyed Imus' no boundries, at times appalling, atmosphere are all bigots and racists who need to be dealt with. These are liberals? There has got to be a better name for this bandwagon behavior. There is nothing to be proud of in your advocacy of the firing of Imus. What do you think Edward R. Murrow would think of CBS caving to a witchhunt? Too bad we don't have Arthur Miller or Vonnegut around to call you (and Joan and the long list of the shocked) on this sad and deeply hypocritical affair. Oh sorry, just two more old fossils.

  • Thanks for promoting good manners King

Are you truely so deluded as to think this is about decency and good manners? Do you think that old gas bag Edward R. Murrow would celebrate your non p.c. policing? Sorry, it is obvious you are so much more enlightened than that old fart. Here's to blandness and control, King. I am so relieved that I can now listen to Al Roker and Matt Lauer instead of Imus. what a victory.

  • welcome to Alison's Brave New World

Let's hear it for the deeply bland world you so long for alison. Sorry I am not thinking as clearly on this as you and Joan, esp. the chicken and egg part. Of, course Imus did a bad thing, totally unforgiveable by the open minded, yet you seem to be suggesting he, Imus, invented the phrase "nappy-headed ho's' I thought it was Snoop Dog, but that is just so racist of me. Thanks for protecting humanity Alison, where is your mob going next? Ever heard of Lenny Bruce or Arthur Miller? Or are they also ememies of humanity?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

anonymous, was it Imus calling Cheney a war criminal that caused you to label him and his listeners rightwingers? Or his attacks on Bush, or his relentless outcry, (which started on his show) at the conditions at Walter Reede? or hundreds of other far from right wing positions he has taken over the years? Of course you wouldn't know you are too busy catching the loony bandwagon. The self-righteousness of the Imus haters would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic.

  • Thanks for resonding Joan

What exactly are the facts at issue?. I appreciated the varied, freewheeling craziness of Imus, when I did't like it I turned it off. Shows that truly offend me like Limbaugh, Beck and esp. Savaage, I refuse to listen to. I also find the lameness and inanity of the View offensive so I don't watch, (well once in a while for the train wreck freakishness of it).But I find the media police to be scary and you seem to be congratulating them. I agree with Craig Crawford of the Congressional quarterly: "this was a public stoning."One of the reasons Laurer and Roker of the deadly dull Today show went after Imus to such a degree was the blistering and true criticism he had thrown their way.
