First you had to watch or listen to an ad before you could read Salon (or pay for Premium, but Salon's content isn't, to me at least, worth paying for--there are other better websites I pay for already).
Now they have this annoying ad that follows you down the page, some of them blinking and winking at you. More annoying.
I just closed my last Salon page and a popup page appeared, another first.
I'm getting real tired of this, so I emailed Salon about it. Anyone else agree?
Maybe this aggressiveness has something to do with the large number of Republiban/White wing trolls in the comment sections.
I'm about half a step from boycotting this site, after 10 years. Anyone else?

and I'll third the thanks. Anyone interested in learning about how we committed genocide in the 19th century can do worse than read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Though written by a white man (I believe), Dee Brown, it's an unvarnished look at a mindset that prevails to this day (see white wing of the GOP).
What's with the attitude that anything you say or write that is critical of our past or present policies is "un-American"? We've all heard that a lot, especially during Bush's reign of error, but I still don't get it. I love my country, just like I love the alcoholic family member who I keep trying to get off the bottle and quit smoking....does that mean I hate him?
These are rhetorical questions of course, I think it's one of those Venus/Mars dichotomies.
of children (quotes because I find the term troubling regardless) be one of beautiful kids--I mean, it's still scarily superficial, but just as an idea--of kids who are beautiful, well, kids! Being kids! Innocent little beings, isn't that what's truly beautiful about them?
A clever comment competition, a creative game competition, whatever.
I didn't care to look at the slide show, but I understand from a comment that there's a swimsuit competition? If so that's just completely sick.
What the hell is going on in this country--a 15 y.o. girl being gang-raped while onlookers cheer, young people thinking "bitch" is an acceptable term to call someone (usually female), and this.
America needs to take a loooong hard look in the mirror; it's end-of-the-Roman-empire deja-vu all over again.
looking at the slide show, now I am completely creeped out. And none of those kids looked happy, most looked at least semi-traumatized or depressed....and I've just joined them.
banish that knee-jerk contrarian Paglia; I used to sift through her columns for the occasional gem, but when she started writing hagiographies to Caribou Barbie I saw through to her ploy. She's living proof that the bestowing of professorships is often a capricious, nay random, business.
And the alcoholism/alcohol thing looks like a classic mis-edit, common on, for example, the otherwise excellent website counterpunch.org; but since Salon is so much more corporate and pap-filled (see above) they need to compensate IMO by being more on-the-ball with the niceties of presentation.
I was not pleased to see this:
"Munley, it seems, just got shot."
Intentional or not that's disrespectful, implying she did nothing? Also, I don't think you know exactly what went down yet.
Ever had a gone discharged in your direction? (and yes, I have) It's not fun or exciting, it's terrifying. Try charging into a life-or-death situation like that some time, maybe the article about you would then read
"Benjamin just shi*t his pants and curled up in the fetal position." Point is she displayed valor and dedication to her dangerous job and shouldn't be on the receiving end of such a comment.
