You had a chance with:

"there's also the concurrent truth that everyone, regardless of color, likes to feel good about his or her hair. And if you have the time and money to get the hair you want, why not?"

to make the point "why is the hair African Americans want" straight like (most) whites'," right after the statement that whites feel less threatened by straight hair on blacks (itself a remark that shows some kind of unconscious racism: why not just say what you really want to say, they feel less threatened by straight-haired blacks). Maybe the point is too obvious and hinted at elsewhere, but that desire for "whiteness" is at the crux of the whole thing. Missing it is inexcusably poor journalism.

Hey Rush and other Republiban members

Payback's a bitch, innit?

Chew on it for a while, ha!

Speaking of ha's, hard to pick a winner out of that stack of BS, but Bolton thinking he deserves any prize at all (aside from a**hole of the decade), that's especially rich.

GWB's selection

in 2000 cost us at least one year backwards for every one Gore would have brought us forward, so about 20 years, which we can possibly make up in 10-12 years if we get started yesterday or so.

But those future years will be progressively more valuable....so the math is too difficult--for me at least--but it's hard to underestimate the consequences of that one event alone.

American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius)

has been long prized by the Chinese because unlike the Chinese/Korean subspecies (Panax ginseng) it doesn't cause heat in the body (according to TCM--Traditional Chinese Medicine), meaning it can be used by any age person, those with excess heat, etc. For this reason it will always be valuable, and it stands to reason that it will grow better in it's native habitat, being a somewhat finicky plant. FWIW it also tastes better than red ginseng, milder at least.

The above commenters' silliness aside, it is possible that the Chinese would try gain some control of American production, it would make sense for them.....

@ Glock 45

You just have to harp on the fact he's Muslim, and his killing was "jihad." Lay off the politics until it's as clear as can be (which may never be too clear) what his motives were. Maybe he was just batshit crazy...you might understand that yourself.

Small and fast, big and slow, if you want to read 10,000 pages of which is better, or worse, depending on whether you're on the giving or receiving end, check any handgun-related internet forum.

The 5.7x28 is a nasty round because it does have low recoil, faster follow ups, the FN pistol is very high-cap, and most of all it does tumble...and if some creep gets a hold of the armor-piercing rounds don't be around if he decides to use it.

.45 ACP may not penetrate armor, but slow and heavy means it dumps all its energy in the target, will break through ribs etc to the vitals, the recoil is more manageable than .40SW or 10mm, (yes, .40SW, high pressure and snappy vs. a nice if heavy roll) and, another plus, choosing this caliber means you can shoot a 1911 (okay 10mm 1911s are equal or better firepower), IMNSHO still the best combat handgun ever made (and one of the few aesthetic designs out there), though you need to train train train the thumb push. Can't beat the 1mm reset for follow ups :-).

Salon ads

First you had to watch or listen to an ad before you could read Salon (or pay for Premium, but Salon's content isn't, to me at least, worth paying for--there are other better websites I pay for already).

Now they have this annoying ad that follows you down the page, some of them blinking and winking at you. More annoying.

I just closed my last Salon page and a popup page appeared, another first.

I'm getting real tired of this, so I emailed Salon about it. Anyone else agree?

Maybe this aggressiveness has something to do with the large number of Republiban/White wing trolls in the comment sections.

I'm about half a step from boycotting this site, after 10 years. Anyone else?
