Original article: Let it snow

see, this is why it's fun to argue...

which team is "better" in an objective sense. now we've got something to do during the indefinite rain delay!

question: do you send cole hamels back out there? i heard the local radio guy wondering that this morning and thought he was crazy.

unfair to the phillies? how about unfair to the fans? the world series should be over by now. we should be carving pumpkins, getting our costumes ready for halloween. snow is a distinct possibility.

i'm flabbergasted to learn that the world series will be even LATER next year. flabbergasted.

as for the series: looks like pena and longoria are starting to wake up. i thought the phillies really needed to seal the deal with more early runs -- they certainly had the chance. if the phils are up 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, does it then become easier to call the game and hand them the series?

i'd be worried now. the rays have 3 innings to steal a game and head back to tampa, where anything could happen.

Original article: Palin didn't have to run

@ tiberius

-- you suck.

and is it just a coincidence that your "alias" happens to be one of the most corrupt despots of Rome, who spent his last days in exile humping little boys and throwing servants off the cliff?

anyway, as tib's reaction ought to show everyone -- be careful what you wish for. the passion for palin among rightwing dingheads is almost as deep as it is inexplicable. and she clearly drives liberals nuts, always a prerequisite for certain segment of the "base."

the one great advantage to the left if palin were to run in 2012 is that we've already seen version 1.0; she's not coming out of nowhere, as GW more or less did in 00. with some polish and four years of republican wandering in the wilderness and gnashing of teeth behind her, the political landscape might look very different.

after all, who thought we'd see some of these chowderheads apologizing for accusing the other side of being "anti-american"? great caesar's ghost!

Original article: The fair share chart

you can bet

that under an obama presidency, this "fair share" system will be used to determine the champion in EVERY sport... your team hasn't won in 25 years? don't worry -- under the new socialism, you won't have to wait long.

(just kidding -- couldn't resist... the parallels with pat buch's laundry list of the terror that awaits us was too tempting.)

seriously though: now you must get to work on a "frequency" chart. every age bracket of fans should have the right to a championship, preferably when they're young. i got to enjoy a tigers title when i was a kid -- but now i'm getting a bit long in the tooth and wouldn't mind another. i know phillies fans feel the same way. tampa still has 15 years to go to have to wait that long.

Original article: Veepzilla!

@alpha

good analogy -- there was an article in TIME awhile back about how McCain likes to shoot craps, Obama's a poker player. sounds about right, in terms of style...

@ reader-squared: it's painful watching you twist yourself around to defend palin. i recall from previous posts that you "knew what she was saying" in the couric interview, so given that, i think you should send a resume for palin's 2012 campaign... i'm sure she will need a good press secretary who can interpret for the rest of us. and are you SURE your wife will be voting for hillary, not obama, on nov. 4? got to eat away at you, doesn't it?

am i the only one...

who thinks obama's half-hour specials are not such a great idea? i see the logic behind trying to "close the deal" and gosh, there's all that money to spend. but i just wonder if this opens him up to one last mccain attack -- something along the lines of "look at the hubris of this guy, taking over the airwaves instead of going out and mingling with joe the plumbers" -- that just might resonate with some of those undecided voters who don't want this election to be a fait accompli, even if it all but is at this point.

i'm uneasy about it. i'd rather see the money go into the ground game and down-ticket battles in various swing states and close races.

@nancerich

jeez... lighten up. if the infomercial avoids hubris (read: greek columns) and if it does what the other poster says it will do -- shore up obama's credentials with testimonials from a variety of sources -- it could indeed be very effective. i guess we'll see.

as for specific ideas about where the money could go: i have none. i suggested ground and down-ballot races, you say that's already covered... great. i just think this is a risky move, one that might not even be necessary given where the polls are. but i suppose it's a good problem to have (too much money, large lead, etc.).
