Science as Religion
[Read the article: What's wrong with science as religion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The subject is self indulgent effluent.
Nobody Believes in Religion. Nobody Believes in Science.
The belief process itself is an evolutionary development of brain function that allows sense and emotional associations with memories to adapt successful behavior responses to unconscious function, thus freeing the new brain to use an unlimited imagination.
The result is that everyone has an immediate opinion on any subject regardless of the ignorance or irrationality of that opinion. An opinion is valued as a personal conviction because it feels right and fits with the perception of an individual identity.
We believe because we are seduced into a virtual world the confirms prior successful behavior learned through our earliest family, tribal, and cultural experiences. The emotional association with such memories form a reference system that applies judgment to every stimulus before response becomes a conscious thought.
Belief in religion, science , or anything is a natural adaptation of an evolutionary process. Conviction is the emotional tie to a virtual reality.
It is difficult, and impossible in most people to understand, or to be amenable to the suggestion that objectivity requires the suspension of ego, not the the dependence on ego to decide on a value or form a conclusion.
A value is, after all,an assigned or relative quantity or quality agreeable as a standard within a field of dispute, whether it is mathematics or morality, goodness or godliness, or the suitable equivalent for something, esp.a fair price for goods, services, or sin and salvation.

Obama Polls Part 2
[Read the article: Obama and poll results, Part 2]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You pollsters remind me of the blind sages who described an elephant by the part they touched.
You need only to apply the Diaper Factor. People enter the voting booth to have their diaper changed. They have a feeling of unease and expect someone to make them feel better by relieving them of a vague discomfort.
Promising a bottle of warm milk will not affect their decisions until they feel more secure.
If they enter the booth with a fresh diaper, then they are more interested in the milk, and maybe a rattle.

Conservative Greed And Corruption
[Read the article: How conservative greed and corruption destroyed American politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]And your point is? When the media sell out, when the people have no sense of unity, it's every man for himself. We have become a hyphenated society. Special interest politics is the way to get a bigger bite of the apple. Why are you surprised when the religious right turns out to be as American as the next guy, or when government corruption is the way a lawless society does business.
Don't blame Clinton. This goes back to the cold war mentality when communism and capitalism were dreamed up as different ideologies. There is no difference between the slave based Nazi or communist regimes or the slave labor economy of the United States.
We have "globalized" labor to seek out the lowest cost of production. We have "globalized" credit to avoid tax responsibility. We have "globalized" comerce to compete for the cheapest raw materials.
We have done nothing to preserve, protect, or defend the promise of the last generation that sacrifices to defend our democratic state. It was left to the greedy to enjoy the fruits of the millions dead in a forgotten era.
Don't cry for the good old days that you never knew. That's not the way selfish people are supposed to act.

Ugly Democratic Primary
[Read the article: Obama weighs in on ugly Dem primary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is a relief to learn that there is a separate African-American Sect calling itself Christian. The ravings of Tinkerbell obviously have nothing to to with Christology but are the errant claims of an anarchic deviant with a patholoic personality.
Either that or this is a clever stratagem by Carl Rove.

Losing Her Religion
[Read the article: Losing her religion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's a medical fact that religion causes insomnia, headaches, constipation, nausea, and diarrhea. Belief in anything that takes substitutes feeling good and feeling right for common sense logic is based on emotional dependency for self identity.
The poor stewardess did not lose her belief, just the fixation on a stain as a sign of the divine.
If the stain took on the appearance of the Virgin Mary, the seat could have been sold on eBay for big money.
Lack of perspective and a lack of humor are signs of belief fixations.

Republicans for Obama
[Read the article: Republicans for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Political realists know that there are two major parties: The Liberals and the Conservatives.
Hiding in Democrat or Republican clothing serves no purpose when you can smell the differences.

Putin's power politics
[Read the article: Putin's dangerous power politics]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Russia is an energy giant. It supplies Europe with Gas and Oil. The West has established "safe" routes from the Caspian to Turkey through Georgia.
These oil and natural gas pipelines, ports, and tankers that can feed a million barrels a day to the world market. The next phase was to be a direct line to Europe.
Europe cannot afford to respond with anything but a pained smile when its arteries are being squeezed .
The U.S. has allowed the Saudis to promote the most extreme muslin orthodoxy for decades while remaining an energy dependency of Wahabi fanaticism.

The Democrats get religion?
[Read the article: The Democrats get religion]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is not about religion. It is politics noir. It is the undemocratic claim of the crowd to speak for the individual. Family values have nothing to do with individual human rights. Dobson and Obama are playing the same game. It is the old slight of hand, distracting the audience while its pockets are picked.
