Oatmeal I tell you... her brain is OATMEAL!
Just for a painful minute imagine being in her CLASS, listening to this absurd blather and then vomiting it back in painfully twisted thought warped essays? Oh the inhumanity!
I have some questions that arise from the officer's report.
I believe that the officer's actions inflamed the situation again and again. There is also a central legal issue to this incident.
Notice that the officer enters the home without Gate's permission. He had already verbally identified himself to the officer, something he is required to do by law. What he is NOT required to do is show the officer ID. Gate's could have said, "Sorry officer, I don't have an ID to show you." Remember he is standing in his own home. He is not driving or doing something that requires him to show ID. Instead Gates turns and goes into his home to get the ID, and the officer follows him in without being asked into the home. This is provocative, as Gates had already identified himself verbally to the officer. Can one look at this man and think he was some kind of burglar?
So Gates shows the multiple Id's to the officer. At this point the officer should have said, "Sorry for the confusion Mr. Gates, I was just trying to protect your property." That is not what happens. The officer does not identify himself to Gates, something he is required to do by law. Name and badge number. The officer claims it is because Gates was yelling so much he just couldn't get it out. This explanation seems ridiculous to me.
So let's examine the actions of both parities. Gates gives the officer ID, something he is not legally required to do, while the officer does not, something he IS required to do.
Then the officer plays a little game. He tricks Gates to come out onto his own porch then arrests him for disturbing the peace.
I find the actions of this officer to be unprofessional at the least. I think there should be consequences for these actions.
If one can't yell on your own front porch, where CAN you do it?
The way to be a natural born American Citizen is to be born in America. His father has nothing to do with it.
Our country is very young. Everyone has a relative that was a foreigner at some recent point in American history. Shall we make a law that states that only descendants of the Mayflower can run for President? How about American Indians? After all they were here long before any European settlers.
Christopher Columbus 'discovered' America! I'm of Italian decent and think we should have the inside track to the White House, no?
oy... It's been awhile since I've posted here. I was a loud protester during the primary concerning Salon's bias against Obama and blind support for Hilary.
I can't believe Joan is wagging the tail of this old dog again. Get a grip. Sure, there have been some disappointments with Obama, but what a lousy hand he's been dealt. You can be the best poker player in the world, but you can not win with crappy cards.
The Republicans have the luxury of being completely disassociated with reality. Make up whatever you like and scream as loud as you can. "I have five aces! Five aces I tell you!"
Can we not join that chorus? Obama will get better. We're only eight months in here people. Play nice with our president please. Stop all the second and third guessing and let's have a little unadulterated support.
"After listening to the NPR interview of Spike Jonze and hearing Gandolfini's lines..."
oh... you mean you haven't SEEN the damn movie yet... and yet... you have an opinion about it? you are dismissed.
Actually there was a post saying how the reviews in Salon are always WRONG. Yep...I think Zacharek and Paglia are tuning Salon into OPPOSITE world... hyperbolic deconstructed frenzy that's just wrong.
