O'Rourke denies permission... NY TImes
[Read the article: Washington Post on Domenech: "We did plenty of background checks"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"He explained the passage that appeared to be copied from Mr. O'Rourke's book by saying that Mr. O'Rourke gave him permission.
Contacted at his home in New Hampshire, Mr. O'Rourke said that he had never heard of Mr. Domenech and did not recall meeting him.
"I wouldn't want to swear in a court of law that I never met the guy, Mr. O'Rourke said of Mr. Domenech, "but I didn't give him permission to use my words under his byline, no." "

Why can't we....
[Read the article: A time for the Senate to lead]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]have Webb for 08? Why do we have to wait? Let's have him now... I'm sorry but Hillary can loose. I think the wait and see argument applies to Obama more than this well spoken straight shooting Senator. Webb now!

To your theory Glenn
[Read the article: Comey's testimony raises new and vital questions about the NSA scandal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I remembered something I heard on a Larry King show back in January 06.
King was interviewing Russell Tice. This exchange literally made me sit up in my chair:
KING: Russell Tice, a former National Security Agency officer, who wants to testify before Congress about all of this, about a super secret black world or special access programs, when you started doing what you had to do or were apparently were ordered to do or asked to do, did it make you uncomfortable, Russell?
TICE: Well, most of these programs are very beneficial to the security of our country. It is just the potentiality of abuses, and I think abuses have happened that I think need to be addressed. And apparently we have very little oversight. So that's sort of what I want to bring to issue to Congress.
Here is someone who was directly involved in the program who says abuses have happened that need to be addressed. What is he talking about? It would seem to point in the direction of some of Glenn's speculations. Watergate without the break in seems more and more plausible. Can someone talk to this guy?

laugh... cry...
[Read the article: Inside the Creation Museum]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If our fellow Americans weren’t so dangerous one could just sit back and laugh.
There are many historical anecdotes… that very few took Hitler and the Nazi party seriously when they first came to power.
Blind fascist faith on display here…
Reminds me of the PT Barnum museum… EXIT… reality.
A sucker born every minute…
The difference is… they want us all to become suckers…
No thanks… send me to hell please… first class.

Oh wow...Annon
[Read the article: Inside the Creation Museum]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Two Hitler references in a row...
Hitler was a believer...
The Catholic Church aided him in determining who was Jewish...
You never heard the term CHRIST KILLERS?
Oh wait... you bolster your argument quoting an absurd science fiction flic...
Oh wait... your argument displays no logic whatsoever...
Connect the dots... oooohhh look! It's a kitty cat!

[Read the article: "On Chesil Beach"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Some lovely evocative writing... but I must admit... don't sense the there there... English love this sort of polite sorry oh so sorry thing... ok... oops... then... buh bye... all of this sound and fury for that...?

[Read the article: The Democrats' responsibility in the wake of Gonzales' resignation]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm an ex-Catholic. My daughter is left handed... and she was rather surprised/amused when I told her how the old Irish nuns... way back when... used to call kids who were left handed ‘child of the devil'. I have lots more but you get the idea… no?

Pea-cocks
[Read the article: National Review's new tough guy, Mark Hemingway]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think Glen is really on to something here.
The extreme right has historically flirted with a faux, over puffed-up masculinity
Think about cross dressing Nazi’s
Mussolini’s obsession with uniforms
Torture… and getting off on it
The sexual implications of unchecked power
Strutting pompous fascists on parade
The suppression of women
All of these things point to a lack of masculine confidence and over compensation
I hope Glen draws some historic parallels in his book.
Now on a lighter note I’d like to know…
Girls… how many times did you have to fake it with a Republican?

The last BIG CROOK
[Read the article: Dan Rather stands by his story]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Who remembers this seminal moment?
Nixon, “Are you running for President?”
Rather, “No sir, are you?”
I remember seeing that one live… and I let slip a “whoa…”
Dan’s name has been on the list since then.
It took a ling time… they had their little staged revolution… and finally got him.
However… judging by the rather shrill hysteria by some of the posters here… clearly the winds have shifted.
I think Blumenthal is on to something here. This is a case that can go places where no investigation has gone before. Documents/Schmocumets… discovery is hell.

The law
[Read the article: Ellen, the dog bullies and me]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The posts that interest me in this thread are the ones that discuss the law in this circumstance.
I sign contracts all the time... you can write whatever you like into a contract... it doesn't mean that every clause is legal or enforceable. A contract can say I am your slave for life. Even if I say that I understand the terms, it would be Illegal and unenforceable.
Since pets are considered property... I am not sure the agency had a leg to stand on once they gave the dog to Ellen. The part of this story that worries me is the way the police were used to take the dog apparently under false pretences. Just because someone shows up with a cop who says blah blah blah doesn't make the officer’s actions legal. We are becoming brainwashed to automatically obey authoritarian figures.
