Garrison Keillor has turned into Nancy Reagan

1.5 million children in America are born out of wedlock each year. Another 1 million similarly situated go to abortion. That means 5 million parents and 10 million grandparents each year are involved in an unwed pregnancy. Does Garrison Keillor think Obama is so far ahead that the Democrats can afford to lose the votes of 10s of millions of voters by shaming them about a private issue. If the Democrats pursue their jihad against unwed mothers, they will swift boat themselves and the Republicans will waltz into another four years.

alecsmom

I accept your apology.

Former teacher

As a former teacher in Jersey City, I can assure you I am familiar with the concept of teen pregnancy. Even when a 14 year old brought her newborn into my 9th grade class, we didn't give up on her. We didn't "condemn" her, as you apparently do. I was at Albert Einstein in Philadelphia earlier this summer and I saw many children that I wouldn't condemn. You guys need to evolve.

I'm delighted

People accused me of being a conservative, which isn't true, but I'll tell you my reaction to the Palin pregnancy. I'm delighted. Somebody on the other board said teen pregancy is a tragedy. Go see Knocked Up. Harold Ramis said pregancy isn't a tragedy, altzheimer's is a tragedy. Pregancy is wonderful. So Palin is going to have a big family. She will bring to the vice presidency the wisdom that comes from being a mother and a grandmother. I'm happy for her and wish her daughter well. As for the nasty haters on this board, I remind you that 40 percent of children today are born out of wedlock and when you say nasty, hateful things about them, you are saying nasy, hateful things about most women in America.

To alecsmom

I really do think Obama's supporters are being nasty and hateful. I'm also surprised that you read my entire history and picked out a time I expressed the same concern about mean behavior from Obama supporters. Then I looked at your history and noticed that you had commented on the Palin pregnancy a dozen times already today and I realized that I'm writing to someone who is undoubtably mentally ill. Please seek help.

Why I can't vote for Obama

I like Obama and like what he stands for but when I read the comments on this board by his supporters, I realize what a nasty, hateful bunch Obama has surrounded himself with.

Global Warming and staycations

Flying on a jet plane to Spain and back makes the same contribution to Climate Change as trading your Prius for a Hummer for a year. Instead of flying around the world to live out some 19th century fantasy of travel as broadening, why not use your weeks off to improve your own community? The planet will thank you.

Wrong lesson

The lesson you are teaching both political parties is that men and women will vote for an imperfect man, but nobody will vote for an imperfect woman. Since nobody in the history of American politics can be described as perfect, political parties should never again let a woman on the ticket because they will only bring it down. Is that your reasoning?

Always not this woman

If it's always that women support women, but not this woman then eventually both political parties will catch on and not even bother to nominate women. African Americans aren't waiting for the perfect candidate -- some even say that Barrack wasn't Black enough -- but so many women turn against Geraldine Ferraro, Hillary Clinton and now Sarah Palin because they aren't the perfect woman. If she's successful, watch for other women to be nominated. If being a woman is yet another curse, it won't happen again. After the Ferraro fiasco, it took 24 years for another party to nominate a woman.

Why women never win

Women are far more critical of other women, than men are of other men. Obama is getting 90 percent plus of the African American vote, but Hillary only got about 55 percent of Democratic women in the primary. Now, another woman on the ticket, and Democratic women are falling over themselves to urge people to vote against her. My prediction is that there won't be a women elected in any of our lifetimes.

Original article: Ask the pilot

Looks, eh?

The best looking plane ever was the Concorde and it lost money every single time it took off and only made the flights it did because the governments of England and France were embarrassed to admit what a boondoggle they was wasted taxpayer money on. But it was beautiful.

I've got to go with the general consensus that from the inside all planes look about alike. And there are very few places to even view the exteriors if you're not a pilot. If I had my choice between flying a plane with a pretty livery or one that was $2 cheaper, I would fly the ugly one and bet on the ponies.

I objected to article too

The young girl was severely overweight and went to a $1,000 a week camp. Yes, she will likely lose weight in that camp. But unless things change at home, she will gain in all back and more in the next 51 weeks. Kids don't buy their own food at the supermarket. Her mother, or other adult, bought the food that brought her to 354 pounds at age 12 and served it to her. As a matter of fact, the NYT article mentioned that everybody in her family was obese. Rather than sending the child to a special camp for a week, I would send the parents to a program to learn to buy and prepare nutritional meals and how to incorporate exercise into each 365 days of the year.
