Former teacher

As a former teacher in Jersey City, I can assure you I am familiar with the concept of teen pregnancy. Even when a 14 year old brought her newborn into my 9th grade class, we didn't give up on her. We didn't "condemn" her, as you apparently do. I was at Albert Einstein in Philadelphia earlier this summer and I saw many children that I wouldn't condemn. You guys need to evolve.

Garrison Keillor has turned into Nancy Reagan

1.5 million children in America are born out of wedlock each year. Another 1 million similarly situated go to abortion. That means 5 million parents and 10 million grandparents each year are involved in an unwed pregnancy. Does Garrison Keillor think Obama is so far ahead that the Democrats can afford to lose the votes of 10s of millions of voters by shaming them about a private issue. If the Democrats pursue their jihad against unwed mothers, they will swift boat themselves and the Republicans will waltz into another four years.

Fools Reject Obama

That's going to be the headline in Salon if McCain wins. Daily tracking polls now indicate McCain is ahead, after trailing badly for months. Christian woman thrown to the Democratic lions. Only wish the Democrats were smarter, but it looks like another voyage on the Titanic.

Democratic error

Obama has this election in the bag unless the Democrats screw him up by rooting for a stock market crash, financial ruin, deaths of soldiers etc. You wouldn't think the Democrats would be so stupid as to position themselves as the party that roots for ruin, but they've done it again and again. Remember this is the party that took its eyes of the winning strategy of tying McCain to the unpopular Bush and focused instead on putting their African American candidate in the position of attacking a white woman. Democrats have this race in the bag, but they show every sign of blowing it.

Monday like Saturday

The problem for Monday Night Football is the same problem experienced by Saturday Night Live. People remember the old shows and characters are being much better than the current ones. Yes, Dandy Don and Howard Cosell were great, but Cosell was often drunk, didn't know that much about football (never strapped on a helmet), and occaisionally made racist comments. Don Meridith had one good schtick which was singing "Turn Out the Lights." But we were also younger and football fresher. Same thing with John Madden. He had about three schticks -- boom, the All Madden team, linebacker eyes etc. But we were younger and football was fresher. Now the games all seem the same and the announcers seem boring. Time to either switch it off, or find a new game to watch. It's you not Tony Kornheiser that's stale.

There's a name for people like the LR

There's a name for people who think their money buys people. Often it's a parent who feels they can call the shots in a child's life as long as they are providing money. Sometimes it's kids who think they control their elderly parents. Here's the thing, they probably don't care about the Defense of Marriage Act. They decide who to vote for based on some other factor. Maybe they like Republicans because their own parents supported Eisenhauer -- who knows. I can tell you that most people don't vote based on gay issues -- even most gay people don't vote exclusively based on gay issues. People like the letter writer who think their money gives them power over their relatives are a****les.

Role reversal

This article is really about role reversal. The far more common occurance would be for conservative grandparents to write their liberal grandchildren out of the will. If you vote for Obama, I'll leave it all to my cat (see Leona Helmsley). Withholding money if people don't behave exactly as you wish is a form of abuse.

Obama is great

I think Obama is great.

It's called astro turf

Hiring people to write letters to the editor has been going on for centuries. The Democrats, the Republicans, Move On, labor unions, state parties etc. and just a few of the folks who will hire you to write blogs, letters etc. this year. Often called Astro Turf because it's fake grass roots. Nothing new. Both sides do it. I would say more than half of letters to the editor in any newspaper, ever and on any issue, are sponsored. In case you didn't know this, both candidates hire speech writers, editorialists, people who create talking points for the grass roots, patern pieces etc.

Last Depression lasted 12 years

After the stock market crashed in 1929, there wasn't a recovery until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941 sending millions into the Army. While the 25 percent unemployment rate was tough, the Depression was a very good period for the Democratic party, which won five presidential elections in a row. As a matter of fact, the Depression represented half the Democratic presidential election wins of the 20th Century. Pelosi's smart to say bring it on.

Poorly run state

California runs out of money because it can't borrow for a week? I didn't realize it was that close to the edge. No wonder nobody wants to loan them money. Aren't revenue anticipation bonds the governmental equivalent to a payday loan? California is going bankrupt because nobody will give it a payday loan anymore. I guess that what comes from the Democrats running the legislature for decades.

A wimpy state

If you asked a co-worker for $10 so you could eat until the Friday payday, they will help you out. But if it became a regular thing, they would probably cut you off and tell you to manage your money better. Well that's where California is. Nobody wants to loan them money until payday. There's no market for California's "revenue anticipation loans." Just as your co-woerks would eventually cut you off from your request for a $10 revenue anticipation loan. California is going to have to change its motto from "The Golden State" to the "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" state.
