While the press has been given enough raw meat to gorge themselves for some time the sorry saga that goes on within Illinois government will continue to impact the lives of nearly 13 million of its citizens as state government has ground to a virtual halt. Nearing the 200th anniversary of his birth, the Land of Lincoln is tainted by scandal, corruption and abuse of power by a governor who knows no shame nor the art of humility. The Governor clearly has violated his oath of office and was engaged in numerous acts of malfeasance as he pursued and nurtured an environment of endemic pay-to-play politics that makes his predecessor look like an amateur by comparison. Yet he persists in dragging this out as he likens himself to characters in a Greek tragedy. He ended his delusional press conference by quoting the end of Tennyson’s immortal “Ulysses.” I will end my comments by quoting from the same and earnestly hope that the Governor will do the honorable thing and resign.
