[Read the article: Clinton, Obama trade ads on gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    It's supply and demand.

And, as has been pointed out here, our relatively weak dollar against the rest of the oil-consuming world.

The fact is and always will be that oil companies charge what they can.

As long as you pay for the gas without making any effort to significantly curb consumption, you lose your right to bitch about gas prices.

Do you car pool, bike, take public transit or walk when possible? If not, STFU.

The temporary suspension of the federal gas tax (I refuse to indulge in the nonsensical use of the loaded "H" word on the grounds of it being overtly manipulative bullshit), will only serve to drive consumption upward or slow its decline. When the suspension is over, prices will rebound and the demand will still be high. This proposal is was Pathetic when the Lunatic McCain through it out there, and its only gotten worse since Hillary added all the "nanny-state" enforcement rhetoric into the mix.

As for Hillary's delightfully destructive statement about not throwing her lot in with the economists, I have no kind words for that absurd gambit. When she's sick, does she refuse to throw her lot in with those Doctors? Does she think mechanics are to high-falutin' to know what's really wrong with her car?

Granted, economics tends to be a bit more theoretical than most scientists, but the fact that it is complex enough that people spend lifetimes studying and analyzing it implies that it just might be the sort of thing you should consult specialists on.

I know that she's shooting for that Blue Collar "who would I have a beer with?" crowd, but COME ON!!! Shouldn't we be at a point where playing the aw shucks card is paired with deference to experts? Fine you wanna play joe bag o' donuts, go for it! But don't you dare sit there and tell me that you think experts aren't worth consulting. Don't you pander with a blatantly counterproductive boondoggle cribbed from the senile asshole across the aisle from you and proclaim ignorance as to why its a bad idea.

I want to elect someone who might actually solve at least one problem during their time in the White House. That is how low this administration has set the bar. I can not think of one thing that Bush and Co. have done RIGHT for America, and they way the current batch of simpering chuckleheads are acting, I have no reason to believe that this next wave of schmucks are going to be any better.

  • :::wobbity-wobbity:::

[Read the article: Obama is wrong about the gas tax]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was going to hold off on the accusations of this being a shameless pro-Hillary rant. After all, the apples to orange comparisons, straw-man arguments and magical thinking-oh! I'm sorry-"optimism" may seem a true revelation to the author who fails to closely examine his own case.

Then I get to that petulant, baiting little line at the end. Where is Obama's optimism? hee hee snark snark

In cases like this, where there is data than can be analyzed and hard and fast political realities to consider, the "optimism" that you are describing is delusional. Your passage of initiatives which have already been well debunked here, would never happen anyway.

Go ahead and send Hillary's plan complete with winfdfall profit tax to The Idiot Child-Emperor's desk. Here is a direct quote from his veto press conference:

Today I vetoed a bill sent to me by congress which proposes to provide nominal relief to our people at the expense of companies which are already suffering from the high costs of foreign oil. While I support the Gas Tax Holiday proposed by Senator McCain, I can in good concious support a bill which put undue burden on our ability to produce oil domestically.

I need congress to reconvene and send me a good bill. One which allows Americans to save at the gas pump, without jeopardizing one of our economy's most vibrant sectors. I need congress to protect us against the cost of foreign oil. And so I propose that we replace the so-called Windfall Profit Tax with legislation which will allow drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Reserve....

The temporary tax suspension will not be passed in any responible form. Even if it were, the savings would be little more than the throwing of loaves during the Roman gladiator spectacles. Crumbs to the masses while the empire burns.

  • For crying out loud!

[Read the article: Obama, Clinton and the Teamsters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Neither Hillary nor Barack loves you.

They do not care about your problems or concerns.

They do care who you vote for and will say whatever is necessary to get you to vote for them.

These are politicians. Their "ideas" are similar enough that when you crank either of them through the actual legislative process, the results are going to be the same.

If you are a member of the Teamsters, they will talk of empowering your organization.

If you buy gasoline, they will offer to keep money in your pocket.

If you hate the war, the will promise to end it.

If you're scared of terrorists they will vow to keep you safe.

Can we please just wrap ourselves around this fact and move on? Indiana and North Carolina residents: flip a coin and get it over with.

Neither of these yahoos have what it takes to win the general election, we need to start working to make sure that McCain loses in November.

  • Courting the middle class vote...

See! Hillary is just like us. After all, how many of us are $11 million in debt to ourselves? Further proof that she isn't some wealthy elitist like Obama.

Is this part of the game over yet?
