For the record I'm an old white guy (56). I understand as much as I can the disappointment of women over this turn of events. I hear it and see it, personally. But I simply do not see how Obama himself comes into any blame for the bad feelings. The man has been completely gracious at every turn, more so that Hillary deserves, quite frankly. 'He's not a Muslim ... as far as I know,' etc. etc. I'm pretty sure he doesn't see his 18 million voters as trained poodles, whom he can command to act/vote in a certain way. Unlike his opponent, whose speech last night left literally a dozen co-workers of mine slack-jawed with disbelief. You left out her riffs on "swing states" and "270 electoral votes" and "people have chosen me as the strongest candidates" and her utterly nonsensical "popular vote" parsings. It can be summed up as, "Nice almost-nomination you have there, Obama ... shame if something happened to it." Hillary Clinton is such an imperfect, underserving vessel for millions of women to pour their hopes in to that it really hurts to see. Yeah, there was sexism from TV types. No racism, though, from HRC's supporters. No, not from the campaign pitched at "hard-working Americans ... white Americans."
Bush, Rove, all of them. They stole the White House, then eight years of our national life, and actual lives in New Orleans and Iraq. I can't really express my rage properly.
I agree with you, on Hillary. I thought her Saturday speech was fine, though; her true character oozed out on the previous Tuesday. I don't think I hate her as you do, though. Strong distaste, and a fervent wish she and Bill would go away. And I defended them through the '90s against the scum GOP.
Sebelius, Edwards, Biden, Richardson, Clark, my mailman, the guy at the deli ... anyone but Hillary Clinton. Sorry, Ed ... this woman's true character oozed out on her Tuesday night speech, and Obama would need a food taster. She's a stone liar, a phony, and Obama would have to fight her for TV time because 'attention must be paid.' No thanks.
Come on. McCain will get CRUSHED in the fall. 'Might take Michigan and New Hampshire.' Sure. And Nicole Kidman might drop over later with a pizza. I'll wait up. The old man is pathetic, having sold what little soul he had eight years ago to get the worthless nomination. He has taken two or three positions on about ten issues all in the last month. Obama has more money than God, is a natural talent, has brains and charm, and is a Democrat in a time when the GOP -- finally and rightfully -- has the appeal of heat rash. I know the press has hours and inches to fill, but really.
And I think as a Democrat I'm gonna have a fine time on Election Night and a damn good day after. Thank God ... a devastating defeat couldn't happen to a more deserving collection of crooks and loons. Eight years too late, though, but better than never.
If the "Democrats Divided?" theme ever disappeared, hundreds of political writers would fly into a panic. Hillary as VP? Didn't this story mercifully die weeks ago? I know it must be hard to come up with stuff when the election is pretty much a foregone conclusion and you can't admit it, but there's GOT to be something else. Maybe, gee ... issues? Maybe something on the actual positions of Obama and the Sainted Maverick (he was a POW, you know!) Boring stuff, I know.
But give it up, Joan. We're BEGGING you. Hillary lost. And like she wouldn't have voted for the FISA bill. Please. Her vote against it today meant nothing, and you know it.
I go out into the humidity and wonder how there can actually be people who LIKE this weather. Of course, I once stood in back of my house one February, in 5 pm darkness, 35 degrees with sleet, and thought, God, this is great!
Why go any further?
Possibly a member of the 'Democrat Party' ... who doesn't understand the nature of the dire threat we face from lotion-wielding Islamofascists. Rudy would be horrified, and would yell "9-11" at you.
I'm confused. You basically parroted his bullshit the entire last half of your latest 'it should have been Hillary' screed. At least you didn't mention her name this time. I love it: Invesco as "another" Berlin. It sure does blow having a possible President the world doesn't hate. I get ya, Joan. That damned sojourner.
To end the Clintonian nonsense. First off, who the hell ever thought or said -- outside cable TV goofballs looking to fill time and slam Democrats -- that Bill Clinton would be shunned at the convention? And I'm sorry ... your equivalence of Hillary's campaign and Obama's as equally race-and-gender stained ... is way off base. The minute Bill uttered the phrase "Jesse Jackson won South Carolina twice," it was set in stone. What possible reason could he have had except to basically say, Obama is just another spook? Yeah, Bill's not a racist; he's proven it. But that comment, from wherever it came, was deep bullshit and he deserved eveything he got for it. Sorry; can't feel sorry for the guy. As for Hillary, she got whipped fair and square despite her, support from, quote, "hard working Americans, white Americans."
Come on man! This is utter Beltway bullshit and you know it. Nobody "puts away" anybody in freaking August, for God's sake. In 1980 Carter had as much chance as Stalin's corpse, and the polls were basically tied until October. You are a good observer so why are you buying into this crap? If Obama wins by the five percent he's ahead by now, he'll crush in the Electoral College anyway. This is maddening. Give it a rest.
