Will we have to wait a year for the Washington Post or other MSM outfit to pick up on this and report it as new news?
This one seems ripe for the MSM? Old guy, pretty younger woman, office romance (was one of them married at the time?), pay off on the tax-payer's dime.
But, alas, the MSM is still asleep on the job and this get's no coverage, none, ziltcho.
The Dems need to take a lesson from the Repubs/Bush and do the following:
(1) Stick to their guns, stick to their guns, stick to their guns.
(2) We, the Dems, are all for protecting our troops, protecting our troops, and protecting our troops by sending Bush the following proposed "emergency funding bill" (as an aside, how is the Iraq war an emergency, did Bush forget out it and wake up one morning and say oops, need to get some cash for that little war of mine in Iraq) that contains the following withdrawal of troop deadlines, goals, guidelines, etc.
(3) We, the Dems, ask Bush to agree to protect the troops, protect the troops, and protect the troops by signing our lovely emergency funding bill.
(4) Bush doesn't sign the bill and makes grand, dramatic statements about Dems puting troops in harm way, etc.
(5) Dems return to #1 and start over, repeating the manta as many times as it takes for the MSM to finally report it. The Repubs get what they want, and get what they want reported, by having a consistent message repeated over and over and over again.
I'm no Hatch Act expert (just recalling the hullabaloo Gore got himself into) but aren't executive branch employees required to do any and all political work off the public's dime. Doesn't the Hatch act prohibit partisan political activities, while on duty, or in a government office or vehicle. How do you avoid the penalites of the Hatch Act by using RNC computers/blackberries while you are working (a/k/a on duty) and sitting in a government office (a/k/a the White House or Executive building). I've read reports that these RNC computers are sitting in government offices next to the 'official' computer and these e-mails are being sent out from government offices while these executive branch employees are supposed to be (and are being paid for) the public's work.
I think the issue of the Hatch Act violations is not as important as the issue of where are the missing e-mails and what do they say, but is something I'm interested in hearing more about.
Agree with the folks who think its way past time for subpoenas and special prosecutors (although I wonder where we could find an apolitical US Atty to act as special prosecutor, sadly they all seem tainted to me).
Why do the Dems and reasonable Repubs (who might want to get re-elected some time soon) think its smart to wait for the Bush admin. to destroy any and all evidence of their crimes.
I say move quickly and take strong action.
Not that I'm from the mid-west or even this country, but let me take a stab at this issue. People in Kansas want to see someone in the White House that they can relate to, a good old boy, but they probably also want someone that is qualified for the job.
Kansas folks don't like John Kerry or an Al Gore because they are part of the elite (either blue blood from Mass. or richie rich son of a senator) and they show it. Kerry and Gore are too smart for their own good, they talked down to folks and knew (or know) what's best for people and this country. Kansas folks liked Clinton (not so much his 'harpy wife') who was, and is, super smart but didn't act like it and got himself into trouble with the women that folks could see him as a regular person.
I think a lot of those Kansas folks voted for Bush b/c they thought Cheney or Bush Sr. would be running the show and they thought those two were pretty darn smart (and they are) and that Bush Jr. would have plenty of smart people around him (sadly this is where they f'ed up by hiring a bunch of [sorry] crazy religous freaks). The funny thing is Bush Jr. is so much more a part of the elite than most of the folks he ran against in 2000 and 2004. This is a fellow that was the son of the VP (and before that congress-person or senator) who was born and bred in Ct. and Maine and went to school at Yale.
So the folks in Kansas vote for a guy who they think they'd like to have a beer with who they appreciate as down to earth, etc. But, in the back of their minds they feel comfortable b/c Bush has good smart folks who can help him make the right calls. Sadly the right calls in the Bush administration end up screwing all of us except the war-mongers and the crazy religous freaks.
Thinking about this some more and I've gotta give credit where its due.
The republicans have done a great job at taking, what I would consider, neutral words and turning them into something else. Liberal, elite, feminist, etc.
