I was wondering what surprise would pop up in October. Talk about shotgun wedding. An economy on the verge of collapse wasn't enough. Some reckless teenage loving and their display of how much they are forced to love each other as well as being products of bad parents is something we all must pay attention to immediately! Stop the presses because Bristol and Levi are getting married! Agh...good luck kids...adults...how old are they again? Whatever. I am looking forward to a book deal later on from both of them.
It's strange to write that Republicans don't support W. as one and that Democrats were more behind him than his own party. The president was so confident (as well as other party leaders) that the bill would pass. Where is McCain now? He clearly didn't do shit to help anything like he said he was. That bill crumbled pretty damn fast. What makes most people pay attention to this is how the economy is going to change from all of this. Clearly, there has to be some kind of regulation (deregulation was a BIG part of how we got into this mess). Wall Street is going to change and it has already. No more "BWDs" (Big Swinging Dicks, a nickname for all of the head hanchos of investment firms who have golden parachutes) and much real estate is going to cleared out in downtown NYC now that people have lost (or are going to) lose their jobs. I hope in their place are new financial leaders who understand what is happening, why it's happening, and change for the better. We can all learn from this one way or another. We have to.
I'm glad this article showed up because it pretty much wrapped up everything I was feeling this week. All I got to say to Sarah Palin and her supporters is boo f*$#ing hoo.
The last sentences perfectly refine who I would like to be for my President and Vice President. I don't want a person who is like me or "one of us" to be ruler of the free world. Sorry, but I can't handle that job and politics is the not the area where I chose for my career. I want a person who is better, who is qualified and able to lead damnit. Sorry McCain and Palin, that "one of us" argument is not working on me.
Wow... Can we see a woman who is anymore disillusioned with life and relying purely on stereotypes of gender, class, and race in order to interact with other human beings? Unlike you, Countess, the rest of us are a little concerned with the economy and the state of our country. If you think about it, her method of looking for single, rich men is quickly vanishing thanks to the collapse on Wall St. In times like these, the men with the most money are probably dead broke or really high in debt. The big swinging dick CEOs (BWDs) were declared dead by Slate Magazine a few days ago. If there is one silver lining to the financial meltdown, is that is gets rid of the scumbags consumed by greed and exposes them for who they are. I am willing to bet that Wall Street is pretty low on rich men looking for wives since they can't afford them. Sorry, Countess. Any good woman would never take advice from you. You aren't for women, you are for clones of yourself since you have no one else in the world.
I love reading the letters here. I'm glad readers who know much more about finance and the economy write because from a girl who didn't do so good in math growing up and works in the entertainment and arts field, I am still learning what is going on between Wall St. and Congress (Although budgeting is no problem and my finances are good, which is a blessing). I think to average joe and jane, which is nice sign to be aware of what is happening in the economy and politics at the same time and to show that indeed, we are going to be effected by this crisis. We are all aware of the the saying "It's the economy, stupid." But at the same time, this meltdown shows there are indeed, A LOT of stupid people from all across the board. From this article, I am proud that I have taken my mom's advice to heart and stick to never, ever using a credit card to pay for food. I don't see the point of paying a month later for something that's going to come out in the toilet in about 48 hours. It doesn't make sense to me. I always carry cash for quick food or a check card (which the money comes straight from my checking)for groceries. Catering or a party or event is the only time I will consider a credit card for food. As for those McDonald's lattes, I used to think those were the biggest bargains. I big iced coffee or latte for cheap. However, after two weeks, it lost me. My taste buds were dull and my teeth felt like they were going to rot. I quit and went back to Starbucks or my nearest cafe or coffee bar.I'll stick to the professionals when it comes to coffee.
