Disagreeing with Steinem, agreeing with Tracy

I agree with an earlier poster that Gloria Steinem is reaching awfully long and hard here to blame the hate on Ruth Madoff just because she's a woman. I hope she doesn't push for Ruth to be a new face that represents all women (oh please God no)because I can see that whole thing doing a major backlash and not a good kind either. Sorry, Ruth Madoff doesn't represent me. She is hated because of the choices and activities she has made along with her disgusting husband. It is still very hard to believe that she is completely ignorant of what her beloved Bernie did (oh yeah, blame it on his kids, Ruth). I know I'm not the only one who thinks that just based on the press she has been getting. No surprise that when authorities went to evict her, she has already gone into hiding. I really couldn't care less about the woman.

Memorial

Well, for everyone who is over it, it's really going to go on for a while with all of the legal battles ahead. So I suggest turning off the TV at least for the rest of today. Stop complaining and do something else.

This is probably the longest memorial I've never seen, but it wasn't for an average man. So even if some parts were clusterf**ks and there were some good moments (more good than bad in my opinion).

Good:

Stevie Wonder: gave me chills with “I Never Dreamed You Leave in Summer.” Stevie, you define the true meaning of soul music.

Jermaine Jackson: Not every man can sing at their brother's funeral. And it wasn't a bad rendition of Chaplin's "Smile" either. Coolest one of the brothers.

Jennifer Hudson: I was out of the room and her voice just drew me back in. Voice with awesomeness looking fabulous.

Brooke Shields: She almost made me cry. Definitely talking with sincerity.

Usher: Either he's the damn good actor or the man just completely broke down. Love the song and that move at the end will definitely be imitated for a long time.

That kid from Britain's got talent: Whoa! What a voice!

Bad:

John Mayer: Human nature is a great song. Don't ruin it with your Lite FM guitar!

Dancers behind Jennifer Hudson: Was that sign language or dancing?

Tie:

We are the World/Heal the World: I appreciated the songs and like the message, but I didn't recognize most of the people there and like what Mary said, it is hard to recognize Michael's children. Actually many people I was with didn't know who the people on stage were. But if they were important to Michael, I guess that was the more important part.

RIP King of Pop.

Original article: Picture of the day

No worries, no harm done

Like Republicans didn't look at Sarah Palin as masterbation material either.

Idiots

Two men who just want to control women's bodies. I'm glad Sen. Leahy yelled at them.

Yay Al!

It feels surreal seeing him on a judicial committee, especially after so long of electoral problems within his state. Never thought I would see the day. Do your best, Al!

Original article: Roe v. choice

Too easily influenced

Working in an abortion clinic had no affect on her views of abortion, but vicious daily harassment made her see that the guy loved babies and that abortion was bad?

Isn't that like a textbook variation of Stockholm Syndrome?

-- Sligking

Sligking pretty much has it right. This woman sounds childlike in her mental capabilities. How else could someone go from one extreme to another so easily? Sounds like she felt she wasn't needed enough by the choice community, started to feel abandoned, and since the Pro-life community was giving her attention, she just went to them. Then she turns lesbian and then she turns religious. This woman sounds like she doesn't feel comfortable being in one skin and leaves at the slightest hint of criticism. Not a person who should really represent anyone for any issue. Very Palin-esque.

Original article: When old white guys attack

Yup, the Republican white guys don't like girls aren't Palin

Hearing Sessions and Graham made me what to plug my ears. I was honestly impressed at how kept and cool Judge Sotomayor was. Of course, she has to be professional, be quiet, and just smile while insults and second guessing are done right in front of her. Clearly, these guys are threatened by her. Well why didn't you do this? Or why didn't you do that? As if she wasn't activist enough (?) Most of the questions they asked trying to push here were just answered due to statue of limitations and or higher court precedent. Simple answers for things they wanted more from. Sessions was out to get her and clearly didn't care how much of an idiot he looked. A man with a checkered past like him who, back when he was nominated for federal court judge, accused another white lawyer for being a disgrace to his race for presenting black clients, clearly doesn't have any kind of cultural sophistication. He is the last person to be a beckon of racial equality. That and he is just crying that he hasn't gone as high as Sotomayor. I have to say that even if Graham was just being disrespectful, he still said one of the most honest things so far, which is Sotomayor will most likely be confirmed despite this.
