No route change and Oswald was a temp

"That's funny, the route of the motorcade was changed so that it would pass in front of the book depository. Why would Oswald bring his gun to work if the motorcade was not scheduled to pass in front of it?"

It is an urban legend that the motorcade route was changed. Once they chose the Trade Mart as the place for their luncheon, the only possible route took them down Elm Street right in front of the School Book Depository.

A few days before the event one of the newspapers printed a mistaken route, where the motorcade went down Main Street and then onto the freeway to go to lunch. But anyone in Dallas would have known it was a misprint, because it is almost impossible to get to the freeway entrance from Main Street.

All of the planning for the event is well documented. Oswald knew prior to that Friday that he would have an opportunity to shoot JFK.

And yes, Oswald was a temp. He had been hired for a few weeks by Roy Truly to help with the fall rush.

Oswald did it and there was no conspiracy

Folks, boring as it may seem, the truth of this case is simple: Oswald brought his gun to work, stuck it out the window and shot JFK and Connally as they drove by the Texas School Book Depository, where Oswald had been working as a temp.

In the process of fleeing the crime scene Oswald murdered Dallas police officer J.D. Tippitt in cold blood in front of two eyewitnesses. Four other witnesses saw him leave this crime scene with, literally, the smoking gun in his hand.

Oswald was apprehended a few blocks away in a movie theater. He was armed with the Tippitt murder weapon.

Ballistic tests early the next morning revealed that a rifle recovered at the School Book Depository was the Kennedy murder weapon. This gun had been purchased by Lee Oswald and bore his palmprint.

That Oswald was even in Dallas, working at this building, at a time when JFK was driving by in an open limousine, the vehicle driving slowly away from the building in an almost straight line, a perfect target, is the end result of a long series of unpredictable chances.

Two days later Jack Ruby, also by the merest chance, found himself in a position to shoot Oswald and that is what he did. Less than two minutes before Ruby pulled the trigger he was across the street at a Western Union office sending money to one of his employees, a stripper.

Again - it was chance, pure chance that brought JFK to Oswald and Oswald to Ruby. To be sure, countless claims have been made over the years but none of them stand up to scrutiny.

Oswald did it. The evidence against him is on a par with the evidence against O.J. Simpson. But, just as a jury let O.J.'s lawyers bamboozle them with bogus faked evidence claims, most Americans have allowed themselves to be snookered by conspiracy claims.

Go ahead and believe what you want. But if you want a rational look at the crime, you might actually read the "Warren Report." My experience is that only a small fraction of the people who claim it is nonsense have bothered to read it.

Bush's motive was entirely cynical

Mr. Kamiya writes:

"In Bush's eyes, then and now, invading Iraq was like killing Cho before he started his killing spree. "

Perhaps. But I believe the evidence points more strongly to the Mickey Herskowitz theory. (see for example: http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/1028-01.htm)

It seems more likely that Bush and Rove (who knows about Cheney and Wolfowitz et. al.?) wanted a small war to pump up his popularity. Bush wanted to be a war president. As a war president he would have the political capital to get his far right wing dreams enacted into law - destroy medicare, social security, shift the tax base from earned to unearned income, and so on - and thus the invasion of Iraq.

None of these idiot neocons and Texacons dreamed it would be anything but a cakewalk. Dump a dictator, in and out, peace be with us.

If Bush really invaded for the reason Kamiya cites, Bush would be far more willing to admit at this point that the invasion was wrong. Bush can never, ever admit that he initiated this disaster for such a despicable reason and is therefore the ultimate bitter-ender.

Do not look for anything reasonable from GWB and Karl Rove. They are all about power.

Nuts have noticed

I just now (5:52 am Pacific Time) clicked on Glenn's link to Gaubatz's web site. As of this morning, there is a little comment on the home page to the effect that Greenwald has "sent thousands" to the web page.

Rather like saying "when we lifted the log, we were able to see the little things living underneath the log."

A possible explanation

Why would someone be such an obvious hypocrite? It's not like Krauthammer could believe that no one would notice.

Is it possible that he is deluded enough to believe something like: my beliefs are so obviously true that when I state them I am only pointing out reality. I am not being 'political'. Those other guys, who are wrong, are political.

It is tough to make sense out of such behavior. I would love to see how he explains it.
