Lighten up, folks!
[Read the article: The 10 best movies of 2005]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Stephanie stated, quite clearly, that this list was a "favorite" Top Ten, not a mythical (her word) "best". In perusing her choices and her Honorable Mentions, it is clear that she has seen a remarkably diverse range of films in 2005, most of which will never be playing in my little town. It's a joy for an ex-metropolitan dweller to be kept apprised of the cinematic situation, and I will always be grateful to Stephanie for her reviews, maddening though they may be at times.
So enough with the phony outrage, please! It's her list, not yours.

How about a sliding scale?
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When the line of scrimmage is at the 25 or closer, a field goal is worth one point; at the 30, two points; at the 35 or farther, all three points. Plus, if the kick fails, possession should be awarded to the non-kicking team at their own 40-yard line, regardless of where the original kick is taken from.

Outstanding article!
[Read the article: Mozart's muses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Definitely makes me want to read the book. Thank you!
Another fun and intriguing book I recommend is David Weiss's "Sacred and Profane." He calls it "A Novel of the Life and Times of Mozart." It is a wonderfully inventive, as well as informative book. Long out-of-print, but available through various internet bookstores.

Jake's Nickname
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When he was with Arizona, and in his early days with Denver, my personal nickname for Jake Plummer was "Should Have Been A". (Insert the phrase between his first and last names.)
Anyway, football fans know there was only ever one Snake, a certain Mr. Stabler. Plummer is a mere pretender to his herpetological handle.

Sigh!
[Read the article: "Something New"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm the proverbial middle-aged white guy. When I was in my early 20s I dated a beautiful, funny, and extremely talented jazz singer. She also happened to be a Jamaican with gorgeous ebony skin. Thirty-five years later, my 21-year-old daughter is deliriously happy in her relationship with a beautiful, funny, and extremely talented designer and artist. He also happens to be a Bahamian with gorgeous ebony skin.
What makes me sad when I read reviews like this one about "Something New" is that the differences in our skin colors are still making a difference. I was sure, when I was a generation younger, that my own kids would never have to deal with the spiteful comments and rude behavior that I and my Jamaican girlfriend had to cope with. It pains me to say that such is not the case. The movie's title may be ironically intended, but I suggest that it should be changed to "Nothing New."

Well done, UF. But...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not going to deny Florida's well-deserved victory. There was never much doubt that they out-played the Bruins at almost every turn. I do, however, want to comment on some incidents that KK didn't mention that could have been just as likely to turn the game as the ones he did mention. On at least three occasions, a Gator was guilty of traveling and wasn't called. On all three occasions, Florida scored, and one of those baskets was a trey. Also, Noah (who was terrific, no argument) was twice allowed a double-dribble, making him eligible for the Michael Jordan "Who me? Carrying the ball?" Award. Minor quibbles, I admit, in a game that wasn't as close as the score, but that was a total of five potential turnovers and a loss of eight points. If you're going to pick out instances that "won" the game for UF, you could also pick out ones that "lost" the game for UCLA.

Masters baiter
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Zach, the reason there's no golf coverage is because Kaufman only writes about sports.

Anthemic epidemic
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why play national anthems at all during domestic sporting events? It's ridiculous! International contests deserve to have some recognition, but playing the anthem before a regular sporting event is simply meaningless. I have attended sports contests in many parts of the world and the United States is the only country that insists on this preposterous tradition for domestic games. Enough already!

Will and Williams
[Read the article: "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How appropriate that SZ should review movies with Will Ferrell and Robin Williams on the same day. Nothing is guaranteed to suck the life out of any cinematic endeavour faster than the presence of these two stupendously untalented wastes of food and air.

Deg. Don't you mean ....
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]... Terrell Davis?

Owens
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Personally, I have long suspected that Owens is gay and that his behavior is related to having to suppress his true nature.

Coppola Interrupta
[Read the article: "Marie Antoinette"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anyone who says Sofia and/or Francis Coppola have no depth is sadly mistaken. They are so deep, in fact, that within minutes of starting to watch any one of their movies I, too, am deep ---deep in slumber.

Get out the vote?
[Read the article: Can the Democrats stay afloat?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Maybe the Republican GOTV effort is better than a lot of people think. Our Democratic household has been receiving mailings and phone calls from Republican candidates for the last two weeks. Wish I could say the same for the Dems.

Bully for us!
[Read the article: Bye-bye, bullies!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]After having had our lunch money stolen and sand kicked in our faces for the last six years, we should be looking forward to flexing our new Charles Atlas muscles. And I hope we will do so wisely and judiciously.
Personally, however, I can't wait for one of my Republican friends to criticize the new Congress. I can then call THEM traitorous, terrorist-loving, al-Qaeda-facilitating, hate-America-first -ers!

Connery's take
[Read the article: Bond, by the book]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many years ago I was researching an article about Sean Connery. Inevitably, his incarnation of Bond was a primary source of material, and I discovered a rather telling little quotation from Sir Sean. Speaking of his alter ego, he said: "Without all the gadgetry, Bond is a prosaic English policeman."
I think it would be a worthwhile examination, by the way, to explore, not the differences between British and American sensibilities in the shaping of our vision of Bond, but the deep hostility between the Scots and the English which undoubtedly colored Fleming's thinking.
