@Proximity Warning

I'm sure others have already shown you the error of your ways, but just in case....

The two highest serving African Americans in a US cabinet were appointed by Repubs - as was the only sitting African American supreme court justice.

But hey, don't let facts in the way of your sloganeering.

Can you read?

After amassing an impressive record of Supreme Court challenges to state-sponsored discrimination, including the landmark Brown v. Board decision in 1954, President John F. Kennedy appointed Thurgood Marshall to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

In 1965 President Lyndon Johnson appointed Judge Marshall to the office of U.S. Solicitor General.

On June 13, 1967, President Johnson appointed Marshall to the Supreme Court following the retirement of Justice Tom C. Clark, saying that this was "the right thing to do, the right time to do it, the right man and the right place." He was the 96th person to hold the position, and the first African-American.

I know you guys are all about revisionist history, but really, Kennedy and Johnson Republicans? You will be laughed out of the right wing for that one.

As for Condi and Colin, they were marginalized by the neocon White Boys Club right out of the gate.

@talesofunrest

I am playing catch up, so please be patiuent with my late posts...

I am not sure that reminding people Obama is black and that they are not, will bring about the same result in sufficient numbers for the tactic to work,

I would tend to agree with you if skin color (we don't use a "u" in Ohio) were the only thing they will attack. The "Hussein-Obama-madrassa-educated" liars are alive and well and just about to wind up their portion of the wurlitzer. This organ has lots of keys besides race and they will be pounding them all. It remains to be seen how many of those keys still resonate with the voting public.

Dishonest qualifiers

Hence the word 'sitting' you utter berk .

I read your little qualifier. The fact that you had to use a qualifier in the first place to make your point says it all. It nicely glosses over the fact that it took your party 24 years to get over racism with respect to the Supreme Court.

@ Mr. Spud

it would be unfair to assume, for example, that being anti-affirmative action makes a person racist.

Unless, of course, they neglect to also address the "legacy" issue (which they always do). No one really believes that W made it into Yale because of his good grades.

IOW, it's ok for Daddy to buy you a good education, but Gawd forbid the color of your skin should help in any way.

@Wahle Peoples

Thank you for sharing that article and your observations. I am a white woman who has been truly blessed to have African-American men and women as integral participants in my life. My best friend Oliver has been the older brother that I wasn't fortunate enough to have had born into my life. I am a surrogate Mom-away-from-home to a remarkable young woman, a medical student, who is working in my lab.

I have witnessed virtually everything (and more) in that article with respect to Oliver and other close friends. It just boggles the mind to see how much energy is wasted on maintaining and/or negating irrational fears such as these.

I have hopes that with successive generations in our country this will become less of an issue, but in the meantime, I do my best to confront this kind of ignorance the moment it raises its head. I don't always succeed in changing hearts and minds - we see examples here in the comments daily that reason just doesn't appeal to some people - but they do come to understand that their polluted thinking is not welcome in my vicinity.

I take small comforts in the ongoing battle where I can and relish the richness that has been brought to my life by others, be they black, white, brown, red, or purple with pink polka dots.

Rudy grunting "911."

LOL! I am going to have to remember that one to use on the Giulianiacs in my life.

I second JKalos' appreciation for your post.

@ Mr. Spud

I was constantly screaming about that when that college affirmative action business in (was it Michigan)? came up in the courts a while back.

And I'll bet that as soon as you raised the issue the anti-affirmative action folks dissipated like some foul smog in a stiff breeze (sorta like they do here when confronted with inconvenient facts). There's nothing they hate more than being confronted with their blatant hypocrisy.

@ RMP

You go girl!

Well, I try. It often feels like I'm just flailing about, but I do try to flail in, at least, a just and moral direction. If I succeed, then great. If not, then I try to learn from others' comments.

Swimming in water is soooo much easier than swimming in the political swamp. ;->

@ B

If your in close proximity, will you stop buy to pinch me?

Count on it. Wouldn't miss it for the world.

Best wisdom wishes with all the family problems.

Not bit on cigars, but thanks for the above. It's sort of like the tide - a wjole lot of water....then nothing but sand - but it helps to swim when I know there are others pulling for me.

It's anuff' to make one vow silence

Sorry! You're not allowed to abandon ship. ;->
