@ Anonymous who worries about his taxes

I suppose you're relying on the usual moonbat talking points about tax cuts "for the rich" ...letting people keep more of their own money is not "transferring from the public coffers to private accounts." Remember, the government owns no money of its own; it's all owned by the taxpayers.

That taxes were the first thing that came to your mind when reading what DogFather wrote says everything we need to know about you.

The first thing that came to my mind was Halliburton. Quickly followed by Dyncorp, General Electric, Blackwater and all their buddies. The list is long...and I trust you know who every one of them since you approve of their kind of larceny.

Census Counts 100,000 Contractors in Iraq

Civilian Number, Duties Are Issues

By Renae Merle

Washington Post Staff Writer

Tuesday, December 5, 2006; Page D01

There are about 100,000 government contractors operating in Iraq, not counting subcontractors, a total that is approaching the size of the U.S. military force there, according to the military's first census of the growing population of civilians operating in the battlefield.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/04/AR2006120401311.html

I'm pretty sick of my tax dollars being used to pay the military-industrial complex to murder civilians.

@RMP

We have cameras at certain intersections here designed to catch people running the light. It was a not-so-subtle jab at Haggard for breaking the rules, yet not wanting to get caught. Guess I missed on that one. ;->

I haven't seen the pictures yet. They're probably caught in the spam filter and, since I'm checking a work email from home I don't have ready access to the intranet to release it. I should be able to catch it by tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing it.

WT - sounds like we could learn a lot from nature..

Pull the cluck on that stoplight camera? :-)

Oh! I like that!

What I was actually trying for, and apparently miserably failed to reach, was 'plug/pluck'.

Going to have to work on this....where are the writers when you need them? ;->

Bystander

Submitted 2nd request, but didn't get a bounceback from the first one. It's probably just the University network. They've been messing about with those server thingies....

Whoops! They just popped up! How fantastic!

Anonymous, Defender of the Free Market

In a free market, goods, services and money are exchanged through mutual agreement, and we have contract law, among other means, to enforce the honesty and fairness of this.

I pay my taxes. Last time I checked I was left out of the negotiations with Halliburton.

A shame, really, as I have a lot to say on the subject....

"Honesty and fairness"?? Oh, that's rich (pun intended)!

Protect the chickens!

come to think of it, which came first, the chicken or the eggnog???

Because I can't live without eggnog.

Really.

Wrong. Government revenue belongs to the government. It may return some portion of this to taxpayers, but what it retains belongs to the government.

Well, that explains why my name wasn't on the invitation.

Um, no offense but, is it really healthy to have so few vowels in your handle?

Really, I'm very curious about this. My husband is Czech and they have a lot of impossible (for me) consonant runs too.

Ah, B!

He/she has cat-phobia and asserts Pedinska has two cats with sharp buck teeth.

They do have sharp teeth but, as you know, they're also smart enough to know who to use them on. ;->

Glad you finally popped in. You missed the pooh bears!

Xlp Thlplylp - thanks for the lesson!

The paucity of vowels can be offset somewhat by increasing fiber intake.

My grandmother firmly believed that there were very few ills that could not be cured by increasing the fiber in one's diet . Not that I'm categorizing paucity of vowels as an 'ill' necessarily...;->

B and whiskers

No, no, they were just curious about the wonderful stranger who had appeared in their midst. They tickle me with their whiskers before I go to sleep and wake me in the morning with raspy tongues on my forehead - morning 'kisses'...you were being honored (true) with an unfamiliar ceremony.

Pink flamingos? I guess I wasn't the only one who had too much absinthe. ;->

I have chicken soup. And I will share it with all honorable Salon travelers.

Original article: Oligarchical decay

Little Brother

Thus, when a politician like Chris Dodd takes a stand on principle, his colleagues and the chattering infotainwhore class reject this possibility out of hand, and conclude that his behavior is some kind of self-serving "stunt" to attract voters, aka campaign contributions.

Since their sole reason for being is serving themselves and their masters, it stands to reason that many of them wouldn't recognize 'principle' if it was hanging by its teeth from their nether regions.

For those who are intelligent and honest enough to recognize it for what it is, it induces fear and anger because it challenges the status quo, so it must be minimized by (ironically) bringing it into line with their own self-serving behavior.
