Not quite David

but she was the only one killed

Actually, being a Bhutto seems to be a serious risk-factor for untimely death, just as my aquaintance informed me. Her father, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, founder of the party she led, was executed after a trial on controversial charges.

Bhutto was executed in 1979 following a controversial trial for apparently authorizing the murder of a political opponent. The move was largely seen as being politically motivated under the directives of General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq.

Her brother, Murtaza Bhutto, was shot by police under suspicious circumstances:

In 1996, he accused police of unfairly targeting his organization and denied playing any part in bombings in Karachi[1] that year. Several hours after the conference, he was shot and killed along with six supporters during an altercation with the police[1]. The police stated that Murtaza and his supporters had refused to allow police to search their vehicles as part of security measures imposed since the bombings, and that they were fired upon first[1]. The police officer commanding was shot in the foot from an angle that could only have come from his own gun. Shortly afterwards he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head several times.

Another brother, Shahnawaz Bhutto, also died under questionable circumstances:

At the 18th July 1985, the 27 year old Shahnawaz was found dead in his French Riviera apartment in Nice. He might possibly have died of the drug abuse but the Bhutto family insists that he was murdered by poisoning. Although he died under mysterious circumstances no one was brought to trial for murder.

And three males for one female ought to assuage Shooter's concerns that her assassination was motivated by Benazir's femininity. /snark

One of the announced goals of the campaign by those deriving from the Pakistani Taliban and the parties in the FATA and Baluchistan areas was to prevent a woman from ruling Pakistan, based on a demented version of supposed Shariah law.

You are correct that there are demented religionists (in Pakistan and elsewhere) who resent women for "intruding" into "male realms" such as politics, and that that fact could have played a part in her assassination. But it is disingenuous of Shooter to elevate that concern over her family's and her own extensive political history. It may regrettably be part and parcel, but certainly not the only, nor even the most important, possibility.

@ Plisko's inspired typo

"Bull" is more appropriate and, perhaps, what Reid should have said.

Jebbie

Neat trick.

Piss poor shot.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Either that, or he didn't fire the gun himself after all....someone was a piss poor shot.

Can you share the links that you are following?

Surprisingly, very few news outlets from Pakistan have posted on the web yet.

Didn't the news organizations have to sign a loyalty pledge of some kind before Musharraf would allow them to continue after he shut everything down? I seem to remember reading (but not where) that there was only one that did not sign and that that organization is still shut down.

I hope that you hear something soon from your friends and that it is good news.

Are you always so sensitive and insulting?

Are you always so redundant?

HRH, sorry I tripped and bruised your pet issue. Next time you take someone to task, or try to "educate" someone re: your own personal supreme bugaboo, you might try being a little less confrontational.

As someone who has several family members who have had abuse issues (of all kinds) I am fully aware that alcohol is a drug. The "phrase I used was designed" to emphasize the multiplicity of Bush's abuse issues, but I guess that possibility just whizzed right past you on an updraft from your inflamed personal crusade.

FYI: I'm on your side of the battle. Try not to alienate your allies. As I've learned, it's just good strategery. ;->

Thanks Ally....

Alcohol dementia is the more likely diagnosis.

That was pretty much the point of the post I wrote that you objected to.
