Will Work For Truth got a belly laugh out of me with this:
Chesney decides on name for baby! John Yoo So Addington Chesney!
But s/he also said a mouthful back in June, and it bears repeating (link @ sig):
I don't know how else you fight euphemism other than with frank talk.
If the dark siders want to institutionalize the use of quotation marks around phrases like detainee "abuse," then we must institutionalize them around the word “terrorist.“If they want to automatically qualify every single use of the word “torture” with the word “alleged” -- even when referring to torture that is photographically documented -- then in the name of consistency, we must never use the word “terrorist” without making sure to throw “alleged” in front of it.
If they want to justify lawlessness in the name of fighting the War on Terror, then we must persevere in pointing out that such methods comprise a War on the Constitution, and a War on the Rule of Law.
If they want to apply the words “extremist” or “radical” to those who simply believe in said Constitution and rule of law, it will not do to merely defend oneself, or to reject such labels. Their words must be thrown back upon them -- thrown back on and applied to those who shred the Constitution and “pragmatically” pick and choose which laws they feel like obeying. No matter that they represent the status quo, or occupy the highest seats of government -- THEY are the ones who must be called out for their radical and extreme dismantling of fundamental American principles.
And when the enablers set out to do their enabling, and start in with their “the rule of law is all well and good in the abstract, but things aren't always so simplistically cut and dried in the ’real world’” mantra, it should always be swiftly exposed for the dangerous nonsense that it is, ...
This notion that come "crunch time," we must acknowledge that our principles and laws weren't intended for "the real world" is blatantly fallacious, for the real world is the only one that matters.
What could be more self evident than the idea that the real world is the one that matters?
...
It must be repeated and repeated and repeated, over and over and over, until it’s institutionalized into the lexicon, and begins to change the terms of the debate…repeated over and over by citizens in all quarters, until finally it's the Constitution shredders who are the ones on the defensive -- and correctly identified as the REAL radicals and extremists at work among us.
I always have an interesting time looking at the body language.
It dilutes the oiliness considerably.
If you can put a scientific patina on your thought process, and look at them as 'specimens' it makes things a lot more interesting, and a tiny bit more objective (if you're honest).
It can be downright enlightening. ;-}
One wonders what would happen if Barney Frank, in a fit of gender-leveling legerdemain, were to swoop in for the (what appears to be) oligatory peck on the cheek that seems to be status quo for the ladies.
On to the speech....
*Pedinska and Titonwan wait with baited breath-- night crawlers, maybe?
Minnows in my case.
doesn't WinSmith complain about the length of Glenn's posts sometimes.
I can't recall that specifically. But there's no doubt he's got issues and has absolutely no problem airing them in public.
He probably feels safe knowing that she has a snowball's chance in hell of ever joining the Kos Kommunity.
I've griped about my Dad here, and even told a few short stories of my clashes with him over politics. But I love my father, warts and all, so I'll be damned if I'll out him with a dissertation-length pseudo-psychoanalysis attached to my real name! That's just too disrespectful.
Well, first, he can't keep his shit straight any better there than he does here. From the post:
Those were the words uttered furiously by my Stepmother in the car to me.The date? Early February, 2009. Obama had been president for less than two weeks.
Then further down he writes:
But it was in that car in January that I had an epiphany about where her anger really came from.
I see he's read Great American Hypocrites:
Starting in 1980, after the painful truths of Nixon, the "Republican Hero" goes through Reagan's iconic imagery to become Hollywoodized -- ...
The republican party base, built for 30 years on Hollywood archetypes, is not capable of even considering emotionally shifting away from the "villains and heroes" that continue to be cast and sold to them by the Fox News, Drudge, Murdoch, Scaife media empires.
From GAH:
Just like John Wayne their masculine toughness comes from the costumes they wear, the scripts they read, the roles they play...
It also certainly puts some context into his rants aimed at Glenn. He's got mommy issues that have apparently caused cerebral hemorrhages from having to restrain himself with her that then bleed over into his commentary in other places. ;-}
(take only what you need)
I'm with you on that. I would have stopped at enough for a meal, but the boys wanted to make sure they had enough for a few meals once we'd come back home and they freeze well.
If we were talking tomatos or raspberries, though, you'd be justified in smacking my greedy little hands, but I'll eat all I pick too. Promise. ;-}
That comment of his was actually aimed at someone in his own comment section, not Glenn specifically. Still, speaking of small children, there is that thing about "When you point a finger at me, there are three pointing at thee." or something like that. ;-}
Wassap? The fishies not biting today? We relieved Lake Erie of the burden of several dozen perch this past weekend. Little buggers but tasty.
