Chris Dodd

So why would senators like Chris Dodd oppose American-instigated violence against a carefully-fabricated foreign "threat" to Israel, this time around? After all, Dodd has expensive 30-second campaign commercials to fund; if he has to sacrifice the lives and health of many of the Iranian people to do so, well - so what? -- pow wow

I received an email this morning from Senator Dodd requesting a contribution. Had a busy day so I ignored it until now. After reading the update and pow wow's comment, I decided to click through to see if there was a way for me to tell the good Senator what I thought of his assinine speech.

Imagine my surprise when I was redirected to an Act Blue page.

What is Act Blue's take on this speech?

Pedinska, you brought a big smile to my face, talking about electric cars from the 19th century as a solution for Iran's transportation problems, yet saying *I* am the one who's trippin'.

Glad I could amuse you. In the sentence immediately prior to that I wrote:

They've been around for quite a while:

I didn't say anything at all about drug use or tripping. You said,

So what are the Iranians planning, nuclear-powered cars?

Maybe you were just indulging in snark. If so, I didn't catch it.

If not, then the only possibilities left are that you are ignorant of the history of electic cars or you were hyping to suit your purposes.

I personally wish that nuclear power were something we'd never developed. Especially since we seem to be a species that is particularly short-sighted at imagining the downside of any given brainfart before we get ass deep into it. But it's there and there's no more denying that than you can deny that the day will come when we have to transition from oil-based technologies to something else.

I don't believe that Iran's interest in nuclear power is any less multi-focussed than our own has been. The fact, and it is a fact, that the US has proven it will use nuclear weapons pretty much guarantees that the only way to ensure we won't attack another country is for that country to be in possession of similarly destructive weapons.

It's a damn shame but we've done it to ourselves. And we should learn to live with the consequences of that and find a way to make everybody think less about needing bombs and more about figuring out how we can keep a bunch of pompous, tiny-dicked madmen from leading us down the path that inevitably ends in destruction of the entire planet.

"Death to traffic!"

Thanks for that willbhuman. Cultural nuances, however, are not likely to be something that our resident IFers are wired to appreciate.

Furthermore, since we are likely facing our first, inadequately prepared for (by me) frosty night tonight, I would like to add "Death to cold weather!"

Fact: Yes, Iran has a shortage of gasoline. So what are the Iranians planning, nuclear-powered cars?

Nuclear plants generate electricity in the US and elswhere.

Have you never heard of electric vehicles? They've been around for quite a while:

Electric cars enjoyed popularity between the mid-19th century and early 20th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for automobile propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time.

Or is it just that you only see what you want to see and know only that which serves to advance your own particular prejudices?

Oh, he cares Brian.

If Glenn offers "silly" arguments in "case law" style about how we should judge Israel and Iran by the same standard, and by some miracle that opinion swept the nation and people accepted it and there was no war with Iran as a result, why would you have a problem with that outcome?

War with Iran is secondary to any and all "judgements" of Israel.

Especially if they are done on a level playing field wrt Iran.

@ JoeDonNuggett

You may be too young to remember this - it was posted just a few pages back.

I bet he wasn't even trying. ;-}

What can one say,

when reading thing like this:

Obama is dong a good job bringing nations to the table on this issue.

One wonders what is entailed in this particular form of diplomacy.

Why, if the our government knew about this years ago, did we not know? What is the justification for keeping it secret, something so important that we might go to war over it?

They hoard their trump cards.

Iran was about to take the trick by actually following the dictates of their international agreements (imagine that!).

OT - my husband, he of the glib Czechlish tongue, calls that "trumpf". I simply cannot play cards with him as there is no such thing as a 'poker face' when he is at the table.

Miss South Carolina Teen USA

I personally believe that US Americans at MSNBC cannot find Turkey on a map because, like the Iraq and South Africa, children do not have access to maps such as for our children. Also.

Yup. They burned them along with the the ones that had pictures of that constituwhatsit and historical readings such as might teach our children. Also.

(That was laugh-out-loud funny, btw)

the camera also caught Arianna's hands. At the 7:45 mark they are really beginning to twitch. Good job!

Made me chuckle.
