With apologies to the “good doctor”: Cheney and the neo-cons have found that inconsistency, insanity and hysteria work for them, and they’re advocating it for everyone.-- _zack_
This is what's known in medical research circles as a prescription for an adverse event.
An adverse event (AE) is any adverse change in health or "side-effect" that occurs in a person who participates in a clinical trial while the patient is receiving the treatment (study medication, application of the study device, etc.) or within a pre-specified period of time after their treatment has been completed.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adverse_event
However, newspapers across the country (and AOL online) invariably illustrated it with photos of women teachers. What does that tell you?-- Walter Crockett
We also had a huge, week long expose recently in our local paper. Who coordinates this stuff? Anyway, while there were female teachers mentioned in the local series, the majority mentioned (and pictured) were men. And there were a LOT of letters to the editor reminding folks not to condemn the entire profession because of the coverage in the papers of a relatively small number of criminals.
While the issue of sexual misconduct with students is particularly distressing due to the fact that children are involved, I wonder if anyone has looked into the statistics to see if there really is a difference in the percentage of offenders in our schools vs. the general population.
Bystander, I agree the dessert bar is getting really rich. I might as well be fattening my brain while I'm fattening other parts of my anatomy. ;->
WT and B - cleavage can be a good thing. It just depends on how you dress it up. :-D
I believe it started with an Associated Press investigation that probably was announced in advance so that customers could localize it. Or the reporters in all 50 states alerted their state media.
I really wondered why this story was suddenly everywhere I looked. The teachers I know are truly wonderful human beings who would never dream of allowing their students to be hurt by anyone. So the thing that was disturbing to me was how many of these cases were either hushed up or swept under a rug by school administrations. It's difficult enough to get needed support for increases in educational funding. Not only should teachers who abuse be prosecuted and removed from the profession, but so should the administrators who allowed some of these people to migrate to other districts where they could reoffend at will. Burying the problem will only, in the end, give more ammunition to those who want to defund public education.
I'm sorry to hear that your son stopped teaching. If he has even half your wisdom then the teaching profession lost a good one.
Teachers get hit from all sides and the fact that so many still stick with it is a testament to their belief in themselves and their profession. I can't imagine how difficult it must be.
Remember the big Sugar Daddy?
Yup. Loved 'em. Now I mostly just sit around popping Hershey's kisses. Shall I toss one your way? Say, a b.day choco-kiss?
Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne,Und die trägt er im Gesicht....
Schreckliche Umstände, aber dann und wann notwendig....
Well, now I'm going to require my husband for translation. I only speak, at best, a rudimentary form of Germanglish - emphasis on the 'mangle' part.
If this is about cleavage, explanations will be required.
Word up folks - Chris Floyd has a post up now.
Glenn, my thanks for such a wonderful group filling in for you this week.
Boehner had introduced a privileged resolution that called Stark’s conduct "despicable" and charged him with using "personally abusive language toward the President and Members of the House" that "dishonored himself and brought discredit to the House."
Boehner is the most incredible sniveling idiot ever to come from the state of Ohio. And he has lots of competition.
I just do not understand this sort of thing. It's one thing for the Republicans to expound and orate on how horrible the state of Democratic discourse is. Hypocrisy is their middle name and abiding principle. It's quite another, though, to see our very own Fearful Leaders jumping on the discordant bandwagon and indulging in nothing less than self-abusive tut-tutting. What exactly are they trying to do here? And what club did they hold over Stark's head to get him to bow down in penance?
Bush and his cronies are pissing on sick children and murdering innocent people abroad. And Nancy Pelosi, in her overly-tight girdle (you'd smile like that too if you were wearing one) is a Republican enabler. It's way past time for "personally abusive language" to fly in their direction.
The cover of the current issue of Newsweek:
"The Most Dangerous Nation In the World Isn't Iraq.
It's Pakistan."
I never read that piece of shit magazine. I think it only shows up here from some donation to something or other. Have to figure out how to donate it somewhere, although I do recycle it at least.-- Wabanatta_3
Truly mind-boggling that headline. I just stood there looking at it, trying to figure out what possible criteria they could have used to come up with that conclusion.
I hope that's true. It's a good thing to bring smiles to others.
I like your teasing. It is thought-provoking, insightful and it makes me laugh.
I think I'll modify your suggestion - shred the Newsqueak and use it for the bottom of the iguana's cage.
I fell asleep listening to the gentle falling rain last night. I will have to treasure the memory of that sound for the winter now. Fall is here.
