Genies on the loose

If a genie flew out of a bottle and granted me one wish (do genies fly? how do they exit their bottles?)

My impression was always that they sort of exit the bottle as a cloud of smoke that then evolves to resemble a person. As for getting out, some unsuspecting idjit always seemed to be pulling the cork to see what's inside - sorta like Pandora's box. I think Aladdin had to rub his lamp to get the genie out (I wonder what psychologists think of that story?).

Of course I've never seen a real genie, so I could be just blowing smoke out of my own particular bottle. ;->

It's just strange how many people seem to want to take the premise of one of your posts and put words (or arguments) into your mouth about some intent or other that wasn't there to begin with.

Obligatory apparel

The usual suspects of the right wing blogger world and pundits like Hannity have their usually hyperbolic, outrage in full force on an issue today. They're all steamed because Obama's decided to no longer wear a flag pin on his lapel. -- Kitt

Oh for cryin' out loud!

I think we should make all the right-wing pundits drop trou to see if they're wearing the required tightie-whities with skid marks.

Just when you think they can't possibly come up with anything more ridiculous and non-apropos.....

Good Celery and turnip salad

Mount Hakurei (白霊山, Hakurei-Zan) was a mountain encased by an abnormally pure holy barrier so powerful it was able to completely eliminate any yōki (thereby killing pure-blooded yōkai) and even repel evil humans...During the time that this barrier was in existence, Hakurei was a tranquil and largely undisturbed mountain, covered in dense lush vegetation. The mountain was a very beautiful place as well as a very holy place.

We need some hakurei turnips to protect UT and Glenn, Bebop-o.

Unfortunately, when the barrier came down, Naraku's evil aura (no longer confined to the interior) transformed the mountain into a horrifying shape. The mountain became bare of vegetation, and became very dark and craggy and demonic in appearance.

This seems to me a good metaphor for what has happened to our country and our government. Glenn is helping us understand the aura that has been cast across the country and the world.

In the meantime, let's have some 'mild, sweet' hakurei turnips and tops in a salon salad, shall we?

Ordinary everyday Iranians

Thank you for sharing the link to Nezua's photos of Iran. We are force-fed the administration's de-humanizing propaganda on a daily, sometimes even hourly, basis. The fact that this is a civilization that goes back millenia is completely obscured. This sort of photo essay is exactly what we need to put perspective into the process. I plan on sharing it with everyone I know. Images really do speak louder than words.

Theta waves

Ever feel theta waves? It's like renting a hertz vehicle and getting too drowsy. If one gets too semi-conscious they may be pronounced dead and have the duck feather plucked for soup.

Is your hippocampus on-line? Are you learning spatial (special?)things? Does navigating the UT induce theta waves?

The various 'anonymi' have been many things, but 'poetic' is not a word we associated with 'anonymous' until today. ;->

I hope your foggy day turns sunny and bright. It's going to be hot today in Ohio. A good day to wade in the pond and ready it for winter.

My fog was lifted this morning with beautiful pictures of Iran, a mug of strong, steaming coffee and anonymous poetry.

ADL and motives

I am known for calling out people who use racist, sexist and homophobic slurs. This is well-known to every group of people I interact with.

I have confronted one neighbor, in front of other neighbors, for his anti-gay comments. It has happened multiple times (he never learns). If I then, take my father aside, and privately chide him for using the same type of language, am I not showing favoritism?

Yes. This action then creates questions about why I would apply such favoritism, does it not?

Does this mean that my past record on publicly confronting such behavior is meaningless?

No, but it may raise questions as to how I will procede in the future in similar circumstances.

It is the hypocrisy of methods that Glenn is condemning in the ADL. He has not mentioned distant history, he is dealing with relatively current behavior.

His critique does not in any way deny that anti-semitism exists. Nor do the commenters here deny that.

The ADL's motive to seek out and address anti-semitism is laudable and necessary, but to deny that they are, of late, doing so in a manner that also tends to support those who advance a political agenda they approve of is to deny the evidence that exists for that premise.

Now, I really must go pond-wading.

Bebop

If yers let me hose ya's down with a water hose, ya's can stomp right on bye- And Smack me? I'll splash with you @ a o)hi-o;) swim hole.

On hot days like today I put the hose on mist and hang it where the orchids and I can share the coolness. My pond is small, not much room for two but I know of other o-HI-o swimmin' holes.

Thank someone for cultivating you.

I will pass your kind words along to my parents. And my Grandmother - she was the real cultivator in our family.

Pond muck between toes....

...is a Pond heaven sensation.

Yes! And goldfish nibbling tickles. And the sun on my back as I prune and tidy the plants. Lovely.

I am so far behind in the thread!
